ff7 battle swirl, again!

i know this topic has been stressed a lot but i just cant get the battle swirl to appear properly with opengl. i am using epsxe 1.5.2
windows 98se
nvidia graphics card
600mhz processor speed
direct x 9.0
128mb ram

Based upon your computer specs, you probably have either onboard sound, or generic sound, so you'll get that sometimes. You can mess with settings to reduce it to near nothing, but it'll still happen sometimes.

Disable the last (fourth) checkbox on the main page. It can cause problems unless it's needed.

ok after a bit of experimenting, i have finally reduced the problem. if i play the game in a window (800*600), the game plays faster when i use d3d plugins.
But the soft gpu is the best for me. no problems with choppy sound or slowdown, its just the graphics are serrated. does anyone know how to improve graphics on a soft driver?
here are my soft gpu settings
Plugin: P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.1.16

You say you get no slowdowns with those specs? Damn. I get half the FPS during menus and a slight slowdown during special effects with those same settings. Odd. Well, I prefer the hardware plug-ins anyway, and they work fullspeed nearly maxed out, so oh well.

For the graphics, they're rendered exactly how they are on the PSX. In other words, that's generally what you're going get. You can up the dithering or whatnot, but it won't do too much.

i never used it :rolleyes: (it's true) and a lot of other people dont use it. it's like, a third of the people with problems insist on having it checked. man, im gonna email Pete and tell him to take that description out :p

Tell him to have the FPS limit at "on" when "fast" is pressed (and as a default), as well.. :p

He left it off because he said that when people hit the "Fast" button, they want the games to run fast :p.

soft gpu certainly needs to produce better graphics. the visuals on mine are a bit serrated
by thw way lord zedeck, i do get slowdown only when the game switches between screens.

How about the Nice preset?
Should have done a profile manager so that we can easily switch between configs without the use of a frontend.

oh and by the way, does anyone experience a purplish screen when the screen switches in ff7. this onyl happens when i use d3d or open gl lplugins

soft GPU does graphics that are just like the PSX. they are software rendered. it does have filters and such like Scale2x and HQ3x so give those a try.

change the Compatibility section in OGL, try 4/0/4 and it should be ok, or 1/3/2 for OGL2

no luck, it looks better but slightly slower. the purple screen fade between screen switching remains. this has only ever ben removed by me using a soft gpu. must be some compatibility issue

well the battle transitions in the FF games are a bit tricky....you're gonna have to live with slightly subpar emulation, is that gonna be ok..?

no im not talking bout battle transitions. im talking bout when u enter a new screen when u are moving about. soft gpu fades the screen out but opengl and d3d turn the screen a transparent purple/pink colour then switch to the next screen, if u know what i mean.

yes ive accepted the battles cannot be emulated close to perfect anymore.

by the way, how do i post pictures. it says enter the text to be formatted???

Your video card may not be able to produce that effect then. Actually though, the software plugins emulate more perfectly than the hardware ones do. They simply don't look as good.

To upload them to the site, you must first get them from the game (F8). It will save in the snap folder in the directory. Browse your computer and upload it.

To simply post them, use the same method, but upload them to an image hosting site instead, and put the link in your post.

ok, try switching to OpenGL. also dont use the "old texture filterng" special fix.

OGL is probably runnign slow for you because you're not using the right drivers. switch to some old, but different drivers....i guess you could just use the newer ones too, i think thats' what my sister is using on her TNT2, like 66.93 or something...
