FF XIII...gameplay not as advertised?

The difference doesn't take a hawkeye to notice.

Of course, speculation and opinions have been thrown around now.

I'm kinda leaning towards the "One is PS3, other is 360" argument.

Let the discussion begin...and please, no PS3 vs 360 wars, we've had enough of that this past week.

Hmm, The FMV quality from a blu ray disc HAS to be better than that from a DVD, isn't ?? In the same way as the video quality from a DVD is much better than a CD one .. I really wanted to see the difference between ingame graphics to make a better judgement.
@ruantec has a good idea. If only it was possible for the series to revert to its older style of battles. Turn-based fighting is much suited to Final Fantasy.

Yeah, it's nice but we know that ain't gonna happen... It's better for us to expect a battle system more like FFXII so we won't get disappointed in the end.
This could be the case.....regardless, PS3 users will get our games FFXIII first :p
Well it's not just that.

The second one looks...a bit less natural then the first. It just looks overall a bit rougher.

And the third and fourth one. Definitely less detail on the hair and clothes in the fourth one compared to the third.
The first shotis CGI obviously, taken from one of the earlier trailers. The ones after the first two are 360 cut versions. The newest trailers on the psn show a lot of realtime scenes and non of them look blocky or low textured (the backrounds have some low texs of course though).

S-E's primary audience would not agree with you.(new gen gamers)
I on the other hand wouldn't care either way :p. FF is FF is FF is FF and its still FF if it ain't got a TBBS.

Those are mostly in-games because the models are different as well.

And no, video quality should be the same if it's the same source and same transfer speed. I mean... HD trailer on CD, or DVD or Blu-ray or even on a flash drive makes... no difference. It's the same clip. Same quality.

Anyway, I noticed that the drastic difference is... shaders. The sshot that has less polys and lower-res textures have excessive uses of shaders, which makes me believe that that is rather the difference between the GPUs of the 360 and the PS3. PS3 might be using Cell BE to handle poly transformations, thus the significantly higher count of polygons, whereas 360 might just be using the GPU, and the poly count has to be reduced to not tax the GPU too much. Well, wild guesses, but... if not that, I really can't see a point to creating all those high-poly models and high-res textures just to promote a trailer then discard them and use low-poly models in the final product.

And that aside, Blu-Ray is fast enough. Kojima just had this idea where he doesn't want his gamers to sit in front of the TV for too long, and he wants you to "realistically" take a break between each chapter. So that whole thing made it seem like Blu-Ray was too slow to access, but that might not be the case. Other games have read from only Blu-Ray, and have successfully pulled it off nicely. Whether it's slow or not at this stage, is debatable IMO because it's on par with a 8x DVD, and PS2 had a slower DVD drive IIRC.

Hmm, but the fact that a Blu Ray Disc has much more space for data storage, couldn't result in much more detailed video scenes ?? They could use more resources for the videos due to the higher data capacity, couldn't they ? At least when you analyze a game disc you can see that the greater amount of data is eaten away by the video scenes. Obviously you can't spend 1gb of video resources using a CD media, for example.
*looks at the 5th pic*

360 Will die :p. Seriously though, how come 360 can't do that same thing?, exclusive features for PS3 users?. And is there a version of that game for PC gamers?

Xbox is suffering from nintendo syndrome. Cutting edge graphics that the systems media choice can't keep up with.
It will be interesting if it hurts 360 Sales of Final Fantasy. While I own almost every Final Fantasy game, and I do own Final Fantasy through Final Fantasy XII, including Final Fantasy X-2, I don't see myself buying Final Fantasy XIII. I haven't completed any Final Fantasy yet, and don't see a need to add another to that group.

Wt........................f?oO
Nope, there isn't a PC version Koko.
I heared there was a pc version bieng released and has been confirmed by squareenix ages ago
i can see the difference between both pics... i´ll for sure enjoy both versions as i will buy both just as i did with Devil May Cry 4... anyways we´re talking here about Final Fantasy.. a game that is just awesome even with crappy graphics so whats the point on comparing them???? lower polys??? who cares? well i don´t care as long as story and action are great... i would even be happy if the graphics are as worst as FF7 which is still my favorite one.
^This pretty much sums it up what i also believe about the graphics department, what i also want in a game is gameplay story, character development and a good work in the sound department.

play quicker.......

go on go back to playing them.....

NOW!!

or later if you prefer
yea! a game with stunning graphics and a bad storyline doesn´t change the fact that is a crappy game... anyways the xbox 360 can use great textures and have great graphics.. i think some people haven´t played Final Night Round 4 for the xbox 360... sometimes graphics differences are made intentionaly and sometimes is caused by differences in hardware.

You're kiddin right ?? oO
On the contrary. It was confirmed there will be no pc version.

With Final Fantasy XIII being developed on PC, people were thinking the game would actually get released on that platform as well.

Square-Enix has now clarified that this won't be the case and that we'll only be able to play it on Xbox360 and PS3.

"Although the game is being developed using PC-based development tools, it is not coming to the PC."

Guess that makes things clear then...
