The difference doesn't take a hawkeye to notice.

Of course, speculation and opinions have been thrown around now.

I'm kinda leaning towards the "One is PS3, other is 360" argument.

Let the discussion begin...and please, no PS3 vs 360 wars, we've had enough of that this past week.

The less complex textures in some of the second shots would tend to support the possibility of them being optimized for lower media storage than what bluray offers, btw.
I really hope that's the case to be honest. I like my 360, but people (mostly rabid 360 fanboys) need to be shown that Bluray has its advantages.

Hmmm.

It depends from what I've read about the differences in discs. MGS4 uses a double layer Bluray, no? They would've undoubtedly used dual layered DVDs if they ported it, and the 360 restricts dual layer read speeds to 8x, down from 12x, which is a good chunk of speed lost. Most 360 games use dual layer DVDs now if I remember right.

Also, unlike the DVD system, Bluray maintains a constant velocity, so it doesn't lose speed when reading on the second layer or going towards the inner layers. The inner rings of dual layer DVDs could go all the way down to 5x I read...

The PS3 has a 2x Bluray drive, that's the main problem. If it had at least a 4x, it would've crushed the 360 in terms of read speed. So I agree with you there @ruantec...to a degree. I don't think it's a complete failure, cause when compared to DVDs, it has it's ups and downs.

I'm really hoping someone puts up a guide to replace the drive with faster one...wouldn't mind opening my PS3 and voiding the warranty for that. I avoid loading times if I could :p

I thought that's basically what I said... oO

I guess I could've worded and put it together a bit better, but I'm kinda half asleep right now...and on that note, g'nights!

I'm off to go window shopping for a new TV tomorrow <3

I heared there was a pc version bieng released and has been confirmed by squareenix ages ago
You may have gotten FFXIII and FFXIV mixed up there.

People assumed there would be a PC version after hearing the Crystal Tools was made for all platforms. Which is true. But I doubt S-E wants to release the first release of their flagship title on the PC, where pirated games are most rampant.

Does anybody honestly care more about Last Remnant then the FF series though?

Plus, it does not use the Crystal Tools engine. Perhaps the big reason why FFXIII is not initially coming out on PC as well is because the average home PC owner would not be able to run it at a decent level.

I've been following the snippits and info related to FFXIV quite closely. One of the points that being discussed pretty intently on some FFXIV boards is the requirements for the PC version. S-E stated for players who intend to order the PC version, that they should be prepared for a computer upgrade.

i wish ffxiii was coming to the pc.

the PC has the potential for the greatest graphics since its always evolving, whereas the PS3/xbox 360 will always have fixed hardware for compatibility reasons.

furthermore, its alot easier to port a xbox 360 game to pc, than a ps3 game to xbox 360.
Hey, I wish it did too. And it could be done as easily as it is for 360 to PC and vice versa. Crystal Tools is a multi-platform engine, but the PC part may need something relatively beefy to run smoothly.

We're supposed to be hearing some more stuff on FFXIV at gamecon, so I expect they'll talk a little about FFXIII as well.

Uhhh, now I'm a bit confused.

Crystal Tools, the engine, is done. It's an engine that runs on all seventh generation platforms, including the PC. So when you say Crystal Tools engine, you're talking about the same engine for all platforms... At least I'm pretty that's how it goes.

I'm fairly certain the engine is complete. FFXIV is supposed to kick off beta later this year or early this year. There's no way they would be showcasing a game and starting to market it if they engine it was built on wasn't complete...

I understand what you're sayting Rap, but you tend to complicate things that are simple :D...

To put it simple. The SDK tool is fully developed... The engine, whatever the name it has, is already done for the PS3 system, while there isn't such a engine for windows based enviroment. About the XBox engine, well, the game is going to be released for the Xbox so it must be completed by now.. oO
I can see what RAP is saying also...but sometimes over examining things like this leads to conclusions that just don't seem plausible.

There is no chance S-E would build their new MMO on an incomplete engine. That's asking for trouble. For a game, especially an MMO, to be announced for release in the next year while the engine it runs on is still in the works?... I doubt it.

Also, just because and engine is created in mind for multiplatform, it doesn't mean it's just as simple as throwing all the different things together and having the engine align it all together prefectly. There will be tweaking involved. Just as like S-E did with Last Remnant, from the 360 to PC and it's engine, Unreal Engine 3.

You're probably right. They may already be running tests in the game, doing bug correction and stuff. Btw, the mmo engine is the same engine they're using on XIII ??
The one and the same engine.

They made Crystal Tools specifically for the new MMO. People believe Crystal Tools was first developed with the PS3. Wrong. It was originally thought up by and the groundwork was laid by the FFXI development team.

S-E shifted heavily to the PS3 when they got their chance. Obviously because their flagship title was intended for the console.

The game is probably near the end of alpha stage now. Now they're going to get work on the bugs and flaws for a few more months, add and take away stuff and prep the beta servers and sign ups. Ingame footage has already been shown, so the it's well past the walk-and-talk stage.

Man, can't wait for it...it sounds so unique compared to all the other MMOs released in the past 4 years.

I believe they will bring FFXIII to the PC. Just not in the initial launch.

But man, I'm listening to FFXIVs homepages music and damn, Nobuo Uematsu still has that touch to make you feel...adventurous :D

Apparently the world is a little closer to our modern world. Just the styling is different.

I don't think they're releasing it fast. It's been in the works for 5 years now. Which is pretty standard. They also said they do plan on making the beta around twice the length of FFXI. And FFXI had a very successful one. It's release in Japan and NA was nearly perfect. Unlike the bug fests like WoW, WAR and others were.

And look at all the big names working on this project..who can't be drooling about this game?

Everybody was.

Most people knew there was a new MMO in the works, code named Rapture at the time. Then they released a tech demo 4 years back. It looked like a polished up FFXI at the time. Sources are saying now that they basically ripped it apart and then just built on the base of it.

They did a real good job on keeping the lid on it. I'm surprised they tagged it with the FF name again. It would've been nicer to give it a more meaningful name.

Crap ! A monthly fee ??? And also buy the game ?? If it is going to be a monthly fee the client at least could be free -.-

I feel the same. Thanakil's last comment raised my interest in the game even more.
The decent MMOs are never free... Plus, if S-E wants to set up world servers, and not screw over foreign players with lag (like they did with FFXI), they're going to have to invest heavily on their network.

Another thing I'm looking forward is this games story and lore. Apparently, according to one of the magazine articles with the interview with the director, stated the game may overwhelm some players at the start with all the new things to digest. I think I may spend the first 2 days just exploring the city and talking to every NPC, like I do in my RPGs

I see. I don't see a Brazil server opening though.

They've already expressed they prefer world servers, but they may scrap it if it's too restrictive in beta. If they do go the route of every region having their own server, Brazil will most likely share with NA. It sucks, but other then WoW, South America is largely ignored in MMOs :(

I suspect it may be because of how expensive it is to get anything set up, technology wise, in Brazil. And maintaining them there.

Also, a lot of private servers are set up in Brazil for lots of MMOs...so that may be another reason why they kinda shy away from that area.

The thing with MGS4 is how they make you focus your attention to the characters so much. They're all buttered up and you lose focus on the other things on your screen. It's the first thing I realized when I tore my eyes off Snake while my brother played. Konami took advantage of the short comings of the human eye and brain :p
