So, I have FF Tactics working under ePSXe 1.6 pretty much perfectly, except it tends to slow down whenever a spell is cast or any sort of particle effects are run. Just curious; anyone else run in to this kind of problem, and what sort of video config settings might help fix it? I've tried many, many different combinations of settings, but there are just so many possible permutations to try that I've given up.

My video card may simply be unable to handle it, as it's only an 8M S3 Savage IX card (laptop), but it runs just fine other than that, so I thought maybe if I could just find the right tweak....

Using Pete's D3D driver 1.75.

Also tried running ePSXe 1.5.2 with the same results.

Oh, I'm running via an ISO, but thru Alcohol 52%. Seems to get slightly better results than just running through the ISO via ePSXe. The ISO is clean; burned it from my CD.

Thanks much for any possible help.

Well, I did try Peops for a while, but the video quality just wasn't acceptable. Any tips for making it a little more bearable?
perhaps try the Nice preset. keep in mind that it's going to be software so it will look more or less like the original PSX.
