FF 7 Swirl CFG

Oh dear 2nd question in 1 day!! must be thick!! :(

I am using Pete's D3D Driver 1.53 and I have turned on special game fixes (for the text boxes). I don't get the swirls when I go into battle mode, it simply makes the noise, waits a couple of seconds then goes into battle. I know that the swirl is not important, or effects game play, but I am wondering if there is a ways of getting it?!!!!!!! :eyespin:

Thanks :D

I know this has possibly been asked before, but I have tried varing plugins and none seem to do it, and I was wondering if it has been figured out now?

Set the Off-Screen Drawing to higher than whatever you have. Should work . . . dunno how how high you need to go.

well, if people here all bought the pc version (if any) of games anyway.. they i guess they wouldn't be into emulation:rolleyes:

why buy a new version when you can play it just as good on the PC using an emulator anyway...

I remember someone saying that the swirls don't appear in the pc version of FF7 either.. They do however work great with lewpys glide pluggin for us voodoo 5 users..

For petes pluggin.. Try enabling "FULL vRAm primitives" and set "framebuffer" to "software".. Or disable "FULL vRAm" and set "framebuffer" to hardware and OFF screen drawing to 1 or 2.. Could be slow though..

I used the PC-Version some time ago (I borrowed to someone and never got it back :() and now that you mention it, I can't remember of any Swirls in the PC-Version. But maybe I'm wrong (It has been a long time since I played on a PC)

Thanks for the advice I shall try to set off screen drawing to higher, oh and 'Flunk' I have the PC version and even with a GeForce 2 GTS and the latest drivers it has all its textures screwed, waiting for nVida to release new drivers.

Flunk I am cheap 'owning' over 1300 games :D!!!!!!!

Strangly all the PS 1 games I own are legit non copies so guess what I actually bought FF7 for the PS 1.

But to the rest of u thanks for the advice, I shall try it and get back to u :)

I have the PC version, too and the swirl appeared on all the video cards I owned: an S3 4MB card, a 3DLabs Permedia 2 8MB card, a 3dfx VooDoo Banshee 16MB card, and my VooDoo 5 64MB card. I also saw it work on a friends Intel 810 (I think) integrated thing.

Thanks EfrainMan and fivefeet8 I have tried both your pieces of advice :) I get the swirl kinda, it starts but then pauses and goes into battle mode I have tried 30 - 100 fps and that also makes no major difference (it seems to work best between 50 - 60 fps (which makes sense). The only other thing that happens is sound stutters during the battle transition which is kinda odd.

So far setting:

Off Screen draw 4
Full Vram Primatives on

Has helped, it just doesn't run properly!! :eyespin:

Again thanks to both EfrainMan and fivefeet8!!!

LOL :emb: :D oops shoulda guessed, I saw there names in several other posts lol, I shall ask, so far alittle swirl but not much, I KNOW it don't affect game play but it would b nice ;) I wonder if u get the same problems with FF8 and FF9, I shall have to look in to it later!!!! :D

One day perhaps Pete's D3D Driver 1.53 will handle this swirl, it would b good, anyhow FF7 is the only game which I have encountered problems with (but its early days :mg:).

Otherwise this EMU is £$£$"@~ good!!! :D

Heh, heh, he thought Raziel and Betamax were plugins *snirk* heh, heh.

Maybe running the game off your hard drive instead of the CD will help it. Use something like CDRWin from GoldenHawk to copy the cd info raw onto your HD (the image is called an ISO) and go to File>Run ISO and play it like that. An HD is much faster than a CD-ROM, and it boosts speed for lotsa games. Plus, you don't have to worry about configuring the CD plugin. Dunno about 8, but 9 has the full battle swirl with a high Off-SD setting . . . :D

okay okay I know I thought they where plugins :emb: Sadly I would make an ISO, but my drive doesn't support RAW read and I havn't found any other ways to get around PS 1 disk protection !!! (this is kinda dogey to talk about in a forum!!! :D) and my drive is a fast drive, can I simply make a copy of the disk to HD, then turn it into an ISO??

Have you tried it? I think it should work. They have a compatibility list on the website.

:smash: grrrr nah my CD-RW drive just doesn't support raw read/write capacity so making a straight ISO won't work, unless there is software out there that can some how do it?!!!! I use good old bog standard Adaptec Easy CD Creater (latest version), I have tried CDclone but that reports my drive as unable to do that RAW stuff so copying PSX CD's is impossible :( :( :( :eyes: :eyes: :( :( :(

Looks like I either have to wait for swirls to be fixed in a plugin, or accept that swirls are impossible :(!!!! Well at least EfrainMan

and fivefeet8 got a little swirl!!! (sounds odd I know)

I shall just have to play I guess, but if u guys figure it out, post how will ya!!! It would feel good to have one of the best games ever emulated fully!!
