I was at this efnet channel, when i caught an interesting conversation about FBI... - then i also check myself the news at Gameguru.

I don't know if this is fake but FBI owns the EFnet.
lemme quote from Gameguru's :

FBI owns Efnet - Someone sent us an info that four major efnet servers are currently running in debug mode, which enables them to see ALL private traffic, like private chat, passwords sent to channel protection bots, messages, etc. and the information is being filtered and sent to the FBI, which requested this. Currently, a big EDU server, and .ORG server!
Man! No more privacy over EFnet!

link to Gameguru - just scroll down to NightTech reading, 13 December

I don't know about that. The timing is too convenient for such a plan. I think it's just some lamer who is taking advantage of widespread fear. On the other hand, even if it is fake, it's not like you would find any problems in waiting for the storm to subside.
If this is ever true, are they trying to investigate something...? I mean, they're so close to putting their hands in Osama bin Laden, I wouldn't doubt if some information was going through EFnet. My mind may be flying, but still...

I guess I'm a little impressed, that's all.
Yeah, EFnet is a great way for terrorists to transmit secret information (cough).
There are no open I:line .edu servers. Hence, none of them are close to being large. Those are quite believable, since .edu's are quite a source for what the FBI is looking for.

Now, the only .org server is ircd.lagged.org. It is severely closed I:line, only Texas residents have access. Not a huge deal.

That leaves 2 of the supposed 4 we don't know about.

irc.Qeast.net is /not/ running in debug, if you're that paranoid, or just want to be safe.

I don't quite remember it very well, but I have already seen something like that. Some burglary happened elsewhere, and the responsibles for the crime exchanged information about it through some of these channel protocols-like.

Better watch it Ryos, they might own these boards too. *COUGH*
This would be more about the warez busts than terrorism..

Exactly.
or...

those perverts at FBI just wants to trade their ALS scan pic collections :p
Yeah... terrorism would be a good answer to cover that... :p
"We need to analyze 'Jenna Jameson's Fun With Animals' to make sure it contains no pro-terrorism subliminal messages. Uh... yeah. FBI r0x0rz j00!"
