If you're looking for an Elite-like game you might give the Evochron Demo a try.
You can buy and trade items with other ships.
The game feels similar to X2: The Threat. Like X2, when you dock with a station you don't get out from your ship and just trade though the computer. To dock you just have to follow the lighted pathway provided by the station.
Unlike X2 the interface is simple and easier to use. There's only about a dozen of key commands to remember.
The graphics look quite good with a lot len flare effects.
Oddly, I feel the game is lacking in substance. There's no music and you can't land on planets.
