I use linux. I open up ePSXe, then I tell it to load from CD, and then it just quits. the output in the console is:

Well, I'm no Linux expert, but it seems IOCTL reading just isn't working out for you. Try a different CD plugin that uses a different read mode. Sorry I can't get much more specific than that though, as the only Linux PC I have runs under VMWare and is only for testing purposes.
