Hi. I hope you are having a good day.

Im trying to play this game Jersey Devil, but it always crashes at the first boss when he begins talking. It says epsxe emulator has stopped working and then the sound skips. I already put CPU overclocking to x1, i even changed it around to other settings then back to x1 and that didnt work. Then i put the video settings on "nice" and that didnt work. I have bios setup and im using petes open gl2 GPU core 2.0 and ive tried epsxe 1.6.0 and 2.0.5 and neither of them work. Its so weird this is the ONLY game that i have issues emulating. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thank you in advance.

Hi.
Only tested at 1.60 and 2.05 versions? why not use another versions?

Your game disc it's original? It's very important to know.

As for the Plugins, try on using another video plugins and specially another sound plugins. What SPU plugin did you used as the first place?

If you still experiencing problems nonetheless, it is critical that you list the configuration of ePSXe that you are using and your system specification when you create your post, either in text or screenshot.
You must also include a savestate of the moment where your bug occurs, preferably in a zip file, and note the region version the game is (NTSC or PAL). This will make it far easier to diagnose the problem and saves time for people asking for the aforementioned info time and time again.

I opened the game by .cue file and played about 15 min, saved before the first boss, without any problem, including being able to face the boss. I uploaded the save with this message.

I use and recommend the settings below for ePSXe because they are safe:

Code:
emulator.............................................. : ePSXe
version............................................... : 2.0.5
BIOS.................................................. : scph1001.bin
Options, CPU Overclocking............................. : x1
Options, CPU Mode..................................... : Dynarec (Fast)
Options, GTE Hacks, Widescreen........................ : DISABLE
Options, GTE Hacks, Subpixel precission............... : DISABLE
Config, BIOS, Select.................................. : bios\scph1001.bin
Config, BIOS, Enable HLE BIOS......................... : UNCHECK
Config, Memory Cards, 1, Enable....................... : check
Config, Memory Cards, 2, Enable....................... : check
Config, Memory Cards, Use individual memcards by game. : check
Config, Plugins, Sound, Select........................ : ePSXe SPU core 2.0.0.
Config, Plugins, Sound, Sound enabled................. : check
Config, Plugins, Sound, Configure, Sound Latency...... : 5: Low Latency
Config, Plugins, Sound, Configure, Sound Effecs....... : 2: Full Sound Effects
Config, Plugins, Video, Select........................ : ePSXe GPU core 2.0.0.
Config, Plugins, Video, Configure, Color Depth........ : 32 Bit
Config, Plugins, Video, Configure, Window mode........ : check
Config, Plugins, Video, Configure, Window size........ : 896 x 672
Config, Plugins, Video, Configure, Internal Resolution : 1: Normal Resolution
Config, Plugins, Video, Configure, Brightness Profile. : 0: Original
Config, Plugins, Video, Configure, Stretching Mode.... : 0: Strech
Config, Plugins, Video, Configure, Blit mode.......... : 1: OpenGLv1 [try 2 for shader]
Config, Plugins, Video, Configure, Threading mode..... : 0: 1-Thread (accurate)
Config, Plugins, Video, Configure, Show FPS display... : check

Config, Plugins, Video, Configure, Shader effects..... : 0: none
Config, Plugins, Video, Configure, Scanlines.......... : UNCHECK
Config, Plugins, Video, Configure, Remove Top/Bottom.. : UNCHECK
Config, Plugins, Video, Configure, Overscan........... : UNCHECK
Config, Plugins, Video, Configure, VSync.............. : UNCHECK [try enable if tearing]
Note: In the case of games that the backup/ripping process produces multi-bin files, (a) do not change the name of the files, (b) always open the game through the .cue file, and (c) always compare the hashes of the files with the hashes published on the redump site.

if you change the suggested default settings to:
Code:
Config, Plugins, Video, Configure, Internal Resolution : 2: Resolution x2
Config, Plugins, Video, Configure, Blit mode.......... : 2: OpenGLv2
Config, Plugins, Video, Configure, Filter for 2D games : 99: Custom
and click at the "..." button and type: "shaders\4xGLSoft Lite"¹, if the shader has already been downloaded and unzipped in this folder, you will have a nice video result with mid performance impact, at least in this game. unfortunately these former changes are not compatible with all games or all hardware - although they are extremely lightweight for a new PC.

a well done game dump/rip/copy/backup will produce 45 bin files tracks, and a cue file responsible for organizing them. there is nothing to worry about. this behavior is completely safe and ideal.

see: http://redump.org/disc/1875/

as a curiosity I tested the same game, without bios, with the latest version of XEBRA, using the latest version of the GSdx SSE2 video plugin from the latest development version of PCSX2 and despite some artifacts / graphics defects that normally affect this plugin, the game behaved as expected for the most part without crashes or freezes. (under no circumstances did I say that these settings with xebra are recommended, I just said they are a curiosity.)
