Enough with this nonsense...

I know this site likes certain people and enjoys watching them flame others. I know that the rules don't evenly apply to everyone, but seriously, how the heck do you expect discussions on anything when certain people are allowed to name call, personally attack others, and flambe the heck out of others?

Take a serious look at the XP / Dying thread... Your "favorites" can't handle the fact that some people are happy with XP and unwilling to jump to Vista/Windows 7. Why? There are millions of PC people and not all think alike, not everyone feels the need to spend $100 every time Microsoft snaps their fingers,,,

Sheesh is this a site to discuss opinions, or do you just want your favorite people shoving their attitude down everyone's throat, is this going to become a snobby messageboard where a few wannabe elites bash everyone else who they disagree with?

This happens because even you old guys do not read stickies and I am no longer a moderator.

Some things never changes it seems.
it would help to actually report the problem directly using the report post feature, otherwise stuff like this can go unnoticed by the staff for quite some time paratech.
As you are well aware I myself am active in that thread but I have seen any excessive, mainly just misunderstandings and overreactions based on those misunderstandings.
Thing is.

I've posted a stickie that no one bothered reading, where I stated that infractions and moderation acts should be applied on cases like that. Now it's your turn to go ahead and give proper heads up, fellow moderator.

And I am not, or it least it isn't my intention, in any way, to 'flame' moderation or say "boo woo it wouldnt happen if i was there". I am just stating that I've been following that thread since it's beginning and knew it was going to end on a pointless debate, yet I didn't see anyone taking care of it.
I don't think that there's wrong in that thread except the insults.
The problem is that your sticky is about derailing threads into an OS performance debate whereas the entire point of that thread is to debate OS performance thus it's not being derailed (until it turns into a senseless bashing of one single OS which it has not yet)....at least that's my read on things.
yeah, that's it mainly. but I also state about "stop trying to convince that your fav OS is the best".

its sorta complicated cause it is not a rule breaking or something against the rules, so it wouldnt be exactly fair to punish the guy. but we should estabilish some limits since its very annoying.

now @ paratech:
i myself am used to people that try pull their preferences over me. i just dont pay attention, it is just their opinion. is it annoying? of course it is. but it is easier to skip those confrontations and keep going ahead.

My "problem" is many mods have "friends" they seem to openly encourage to break the rules. I've submitted comments about certain members and it seems they can do whatever they want.

Now the mods have a few choices, they can either hold everyone accountable, openly admit they aren't fair and that some members here don't have to follow rules, or just pretend that everything is ok and that nobody has special treatment.
I admit it!

Want to be my friend Paratech? It comes with a nice package of "free passes"

Wanna be my friend Para? We can share my user status! :D
Thread of the year.
The way i see it everyone should make efforts to act more cordial and friendly towards Paratech. Even if you don't like what he's saying. Give him at least some respect, he's been a member here for quite some time.

Sometimes i'll see posts where I don't agree with what another is saying or, think they are being foolish (NOT talking about you paratech) i won't flame the guy.

Its not an enforcement but more of a request. We aren't running a dictictorial 1950 era forum where everyones behaviour are on the microscope. But lets all try to act like gentlemen here.

But Paratech, for yourself, there are some things your going to have to do to prevent this from continuing in the future. Its not just a one way street and everyone else is in the wrong. I also see it as you also need to put some effort into being respectful though of other people's opinions and at least give the posts of others some credence. If you show some respect and acknowledgment in what they say and don't just dismiss it then you will earn more respect. If you suggest something and numerous clearly point out its falsehood, and you do not consider what they say and at least partially analyze your facts and opinions and change them, or come up with a respectable and well thought out rebuttle you will not earn their respect.

I myself haven't read paratechs posts in the OS thread yet. Hmmm lost my train of thought.... anyways...

If you would have read the thread, I accepted the fact they liked and wanted Windows 7. I never called them names nor bashed them, I asked for respect that there might be people who are happy with XP, but as usual on the forum, "favorites" people who don't have to follow any rules of conduct, resorted to name calling and insults.

My point was never that Win XP is the greatest, nor that Vista or Windows 7 was bad, just that some people like XP and those people aren't ignorant for making that choice...

There are several members here who can break the rules and the mods support them doing so. I'm stating that the mods shouldn't play favorites. That isn't 2 sided.

If you don't believe me, quote where I went into name calling or personally attacking members as I and others were on that thread? But as you see those people who acted out of line are "favorites" here and don't follow any forum rules.

How can this forum have decent discussions if some members cannot act mature or have to follow rules that are enforced on the rest of us?

As Paratech already said, he was clearly stating that he feels no need for an upgrade, with good reasons. He's not the person to base his decisions on FUD, and definitely not a person to spread it out. It's possible to acknowledge the fact that there's something newer and better on the market, yet not buying it. You don't see me buying a Radeon 5870 either, even though I could even afford it and enjoy it.
oh man... never mind I'm mixed up... well today i somehow ended up in a discussion about what Paratech currently going through on the forum. Somehow i misinterpreted what was said, and then running with that misenterprettation thought i'd put on my Dr. PCXL-AmateurFreud glasses and try to give some general advice that i thought could help him out.

It was meant to be an overall general advice towards his general forum activity, not any thread in particular. The idea of what his general forum activity was like came from my misreading the msn conv. I mentioned in the last post that i hadn't yet read Paratechs posts in that OS thread. Thing is I hardly ever read Paratech posts and only am in threads he is in if they are in the open section. (sorry i'm a lazy guy, i don't read many peoples posts. particularily if they are paragraphs long) I have read quite a number of his posts in religion debates. But then you can't knock Paratech for upholding his beliefs in his religion.

Sorry Paratech.

I'm not asking or demanding people agree with my beliefs or faith, just that the personal attacks stop. The whole point of a messageboard is to discuss opinions and we're bound to disagree, but we can agree to disagree without degenerating into name calling and personal insults.
well if you have people throwing personal insults at you the best thing to do first is ignore them, by responding you are usually playing right into what they want.
But it is wrong for the mods to support such behavior, everyone should be held to the same standards, by playing favorites, mods are hurting the discussions on the forum.
