Emulation reaching its peak?

It had to happen someday..... The next 3 consoles especially the PS3 and xbox 360 seem to be extrememly powerful and complex. As if the ps2 and xbox weren't hard enough to emulate. The things weve been hearing about these consoles are pretty insane...

Multi cores running at 3.2 ghz this more powerful than dual SLI geforce 6800 ultras that... oO

I think console emulation has reached its limits for sure. what do you guys think?

No way has it reached its limits. As console technology increases, so does emulation technology, and the technology in our computers. The only thing a more complex console means, is a more complex emulator.
Well it may be true that we wont be seeing emulators for the 360/PS3/Revolution for a good long while, its all just a matter of time and money ;)
They'll be emulated, just like every other system, it'll just take time. Even the saturn is beginning to finally see some progress.
I also see emulation growing more in the area of emulators for consoles rather then emulators for PCs. I think we will see more and more emulators for these new consoles. The more powerful the newer consoles are, the more they can emulate. I wouldn't be surprised to see DC, PS1, N64 and so on emulation running great on some of the newer consoles someday as well as all the other retro systems.
agreed, maybe we can also do some basic x86 machine emulation on one o'them consoles :D Just a thought ^_^
Yeah i see emulators on the new consoles. But i see Bill_gates reasoning since most people who code emulators don't have the hardware to handle it or the experience. But i do agree that they will come out but at slower pace then any emulator that has come out yet.
Emulation will become more complex, new methods of emulation will also come around.
Well, it sure will take many years..., cuz XBox 360 runs on 3 (IIRC) CPUs, and PS3 runs on 8 (CMIIW)...3.2 Ghz...huh..

I can't wait to see a first non working beta of pcsx3...
PATIENCE is all we need :)
you will probally have to wait about 8 years for a ps3 emulator that works as well as the current pcsx2

maybe at first let's wait until all next gen consoles will be released, and more complete emulation of current 'next gens' ;)
Anouther point, why do people assume that emulation is console specific?

We obviously have DS / PSP emulation to consider. But are you aware of the hundreds of arcade systems out there that are yet to be emulated, nothing much beyond the PS1 era is emulated in the arcade scene, heck even the system 576 (of DDR evil), isn't emulated yet.

We still have TONNES to emulate:

Naomi 1
Naomi 2
Naomi 3 (well the Naomi 2 was more powerfull than the PS2, so proberbly not this one for some time)
Atomiswave
Tri-Force
System 576
Capcom Play System 3
SEGA Model 3 Step 1.0 - 2.1
Pyson
System 246 (RR5 / Starblade....many more)
System 258 (SCIII / Tekken 5 . more)
Taito Type X

and thats just off the top of my head, yet alone all the older systems to emulete, and systems that still need perfecting (hi...N64 folks!).

Even older consoles need alot of work:
Phillips CDi (had the 3 worst zelda's ever!), but only has 1 game badly emulated atm. There are also alot of obscure consoles that need doing!

There is alot to emulate, and more being added to the list daily when you consider Nintendo are gonna keep chucking out crappy handhelds which are just glorified versions of the SNES hardware we had eons ago!

Maybe cause NGemu only shows and talks about console emulators ^^

it's most popular... and I also think that it's easier to emulate console legally than all those arcades... you can also write emulator of cell phones, calculators and such... but baside author and few otheres who's gonna enjoy it? ;)

Oh yeah, me awaits the day I will see an Xbox emulator running Chankast running PCSXDC running that PSX Nes emu running a NES game on a next gen console :D
Emulator for the next-next gen consoles will probably be hard as hell to pull off, unless PC hardware gets a LOT more powerful. The PS2 is already [apparently] impossible to fully emulate on current hardware. And PCSX2 hasn't reached even puberty yet.

And CKemu made some very good points. All these Arcade systems yet to be emulated, and so many consoles still badly emulated (Saturn, anyone?). Even N64 emulation still needs a lot of work to do.

If only emu authors didn't have day jobs...
if emulators were made after others then more will be possible.
And the number of handhelds that'll be released, will keep the emu authors busy...
