So... after reading up a bit more online I decided to try out Super Robot Wars Alpha 2 using VuREC. (It's supposed to be faster than interpreter and recompiler, right?) Although combat sequences weren't sped up all that much, the slower-than-molasses battle map now moves at 4 frames per second, which is actually a noticeable improvement and makes playing the game almost tolerable. Here's the thing, though... suddenly all the three-dimensional stuff has vanished. Menus, sprites, and visual effects like explosions, flashes and lightning bolts all are visible, but they're just sitting on a black void.

I'm using GSdx SSE with the bogus pixelshading 1.1 (my card won't go any higher.) To my knowledge no settings have been changed since the last time I tried running the game (see earlier topic) Can anybody tell me what this is? Is it something specific to VuREC that I can do something about, or a hardware problem, or a basic not-compatible-yet issue, or...

I wonder if being able to see the 3D graphics would slow it back down again.

well VuRec even if it's faster than interpreter and recompiler is still buggy, that means that the 3D graphics will NOT display correctly, at this time I think.

Take the example of Kingdom Hearts, GeneralPlot says that it's better with interpreter 'cause VuRecs even giving speed boost the 3d graphics are not stable.

So your problem it's a not compatible issue at this moment.
Wait for the next release maybe this will be solved.

Not to mention that at this point, the Vector Unit Recompiler is VERY experimental, only having been added in version 0.8, so for 1.) It's untsable, and 2.) it can distort graphics majorly in some games or cause crashes. Disappearing, or wrong graphics is very normal at this point, as my screen shot of Kingdom Hearts running in VURec shows here.
And you're right on the money Silenus.;)

I would also want to ask a question about the Vu-rec. In the CPU option the third bullet choise is grayed out and I can not select it. Does that mean that my CPU does not support it or some other reason?
If you don't have a Pentium 4 or Athlon 64, then you don't have SSE2 instruction support, so Recompiler is the fastest mode available to you for now.;)

Does anybody know if the pipelining and pixel-shading 1.1 (which currently display weird colors) will be fixed in the next version too?
The beta of gsdx9 0.9 seems to work ok with some games using 1.1, but with other games (and also all video captures) the colors get inverted again. 1.4 Seems to work as fast as 1.1, which doesn't seem to have many issues (only a handlfull of games need PS 2.0). Can't say for sure though what the end result will be.:p

Not necessarily.....Some versions of Pentium III's have SSE 1. The only problem with those processors is that they are too slow to run PCSX2 (well at least in the long run when speed will be increased thus requiring more cpu power). Also don't forget that AMD Sempron's are variants of the AMD K7 family. The Sempron's also have SSE1 but Im stuck on the question why they didnt add SSE2 in them. Considering the fact that new Celerons have it. I know Sempron's have SSE 1 because I own a Sempron 2500+ ;)

Yea your right Silenus.....cut the 64 from AMD 64 then you got yourself a socket 754 sempron ;) . I seriouly want to know why AMD doesn't add SSE2 to Semprons on the socket A series....I mean Semprons are new in terms of release...im not sure why they didn't Implement it.....I mean new Celeron's have it....and they are the cost effective cpu's of the intel series...I dont know why they did not add it to the Sempron Socket A series.

why bother adding SSE2 to socket A semprons!

Old celerons: socket 478, based off northwood P4 i believe; new celeron (notice it's marketed as celeron d) is based off prescott P4. note it has a different socket also. Totally different beast. As for sempron, the socket A semprons are based directly off the athlon xp. to add SSE2+ support to that would be costly, you'd have to re-engineer that beast. no point in doing that, since socket A sempron is just a stopgap solution. socket a = dead on AMD's roadmaps. Even socket 754 is going to die on AMD's roadmaps (relatively) soon. that's why. a piece of silicon isn't easy to make, so adding SSE2 isn't easy by any means. the sempron line (socket a versions) aren't really bought by consumers directly anymore; mostly OEMs buy 'em. and that makes good business sense. even so, OEMs don't really purchase a lot of them compared to Celeron D, thanks to Intel's superior marketing, so killing off sempron (socket A) would make sense if AMD can replace it with Sempron (socket 754) and at similar pricing... not to mention 64-bit enabled Semprons are out, to counter against Intel's 64-bit enabled Celeron D (hah EM64T bleh).

I bought a soket a Sempron 2500+ retail box. And quite frankly, I would have been able to pay whatever extra cost it had to make SSE2 available to it. Even if they had to change the way it works. Im just not willing to shell out tons more for different ram, a new motherboard and an AMD64 or even the more expensive P4 Prescott. I know only the Celeron's with the Prescott architecture have SSE2 and the Socket 478 Celeron's don't have it. That's why I said NEW Celeron's. Im just a gamer trying to get a bang for my buck.

don't bloody get Celeron!! Those types of CPUs are the slowest and francly, IMO, the ****iest ones out there. If u wanna get a Pentium, P4 is your bet. Or if u want even better just grab yourself an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4800+. That should do the trick.

Haha....If you want me to get a AMD 64 X2 4800+....(which I would die for) then give me $800 and Ill get it. Untill then...Im not rich....and nither most people in these forums. I need to deal with what I got...untill AMD 64's go down in price...I have to stay with Sempron. IMO, it works better than most people think. Anyway....Im not complaining....thanks to kekko and refraction....it will be possible for semprons to enjoy the speed with VUrecs....even if it won't be till 0.9's release....Im patient. Im just thankful. If it wasn't for the PCSX2 team...none of this would even be possible...and there would be no PCSX2 forums to get all this information and meet all these cool people like ck, general and refraction....(there are others)
