"- OGL/D3D: I've hidden an easteregg... yup... a very slow
one, though... try to find it... I will tell no more, all requests
to reveal it will be ignored :)
Oki, just one thing: somewhere I've placed an _obvious_
hint how to activate it... "

OK, that's some phrase from pete's OGL 1.50 faq.... Anybody knows what it means?

Because I really don't know what Pete's mean by "easteregg". Is it somekind of a hidden option or just another joke.... (remember April fools day_the sony emulator)....

I think I know, there a part in the OGL/D3D readmes that say "SHIFT+PAGE UP - Dunno.... But it's slow" I think thats the "easter egg" what it does is blur the game! I think Pete listend to all those wanted some kind of Bluring effect. It's kinda like an FSAA or somthing, but it does run really slow..... Hehe, maybe this is it.

Ever hear of Slow Motion? Not the blur effect, but Slow Motion.
I tried it out on Gauntlet Legends last night and everything ran perfectly smooth, just in Slow Motion. Cool effect Pete.

Eheh, well, there were some users who asked over and over again
for a fullscreen blur, and right, the easteregg is doing it.

As a matter of fact I am doing a _very_ fast blur effect... if I would do
2SaI or Eagle or some advanced Box Blur, the FPS would drop even
more :)

What makes things soooo slow: to change the image, it has to be read
back from the gfx card memory into system memory, changed there,
and uploaded again.

Maybe you can imagine the bus traffic for one frame ;)

A hw/accel. psx gpu is not acting like ZSNES or something, where all
drawings are done in software (in the system memory, so you
can make all kind of effects before doing the real output).

Well, with 640x480 resolutions my P3-550/GF1 gets around 20-30 FPS...
and the smaller the resolution, the bigger the 'blurring'.

There will be small other issues (beside speed) with this effect
(some splash screens will slide away), but basically I have done it to
show two things: a) full screen effects are possible b) but games
will get unplayable slow. Sad, but true. No way to change that.

And now, if someone will ask something like "can't you smooth the
FF9 bkg gfx?", I can simply reply "hit SHIFT+PAGEUP" ;)

Why wouldn't slow motion make sense? I think it is neat to be able to see all the little details as a character is moving. Also, you could use slow motion to analyse an enemies attack pattern. Then when you go back to regular speed, you will be able to beat the enemy.

Welll with slow motion as slow as that you better have some time avalible. I don't think slow motion would be cool because I want to play the game not look at all the details, even then we are talking about playstation. The only systems I would want to stop and look at how good it looks are GC,PS2 and XBOX. Oh well, thats just me as for what reasons you would like it, I could care less. :p
