DVD combo drive problem

I have a LG DVD/CDRW combo drive, which only reads cds, and doesn't read dvds, which pissess me off, coz i already had one drive and changed for the same reason, and when i got my new drive, it worked, then it stopped working.
What the hell does this mean?
Did my stupid pc bust the drive or what?
