I downloaded Duckstation (April 18th version, from github.com) but I'm having trouble running it on my PC. Everytime I click on it, it opens for a few seconds, but then it closes out of nowhere. I'll post the link of a small video I made as proof. Do you know what it can be done about it?

Here you can see the problem more clearly

PC Specs:
  • Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-10110U CPU @ 2.10GHz 2.59GHz
  • Installed RAM: 4.00 GB (usable: 3.84 GB)
  • System Type: 64-bit OS, x64-based processor
  • Windows 10 Home Single Language Edition, version 21H2
  • OS build 19044.1645

Does the program crash silently if you don't move the cursor and don't interact with the menus?

Win+R and run: "control intl.cpl"
What's your non-Unicode language?

Single Language is the potential issue.

It's in Brazilian Portuguese (original config). If I have to change it, which option should I pick?

are you using antivirus? if yes, which one? have you looked at its quarantine list or history? please try to run the emulator with antivirus disabled.

do you access bank on this computer? do you have those brazilian bank plugins installed? could you remove it, re-boot the machine and try again?

thx for the feedback!

Dunno if this will help but create an empty txt file name it portable.txt and put it where you have Duckstation exe files.

By default Duckstation stores it's stuff like menory cards, configuration, bios etc in windows documents folder.
Duckstation could be crashing cause it has issue accessing said folder, putting portable.txt will make Duckstation store everything in the same folder as the exes

Another idea would be to try movie Duckstation to another location.

Eu uso o Avast e vou tentar isso aí.

Não acesso nenhum banco no meu PC e nem tenho plugins dos mesmos.

De nada. (vamos parar de fingir né)

I changed Duckstation.exe file to Documents. I found the paste you mentioned and moved everything there. When I tried to open it, Avast's alert appeared but I allowed the "application" to work. But the problem still persists. However, I'll post here the "crash file" for you to see (and if it helps anyhow).

the message mentions Avast... your antivirus is probably blocking the emulator from working and also in the video you have the LINUX application in the same folder as the emulator. AppImage is of NO use on Windows and would probably be better left unused / deleted [duckstation-qt-x64.AppImage]

I just tested the latest versions of DuckStation on a virtual machine running W10 and all the latest available versions worked. I played Tekken 3 on all of them for up to 1000 damage on mode practice.

please don't mix libraries or installs of different versions... use another one.

I ask you to dl only 1 option, in a new folder, without mixing with previous versions and also to disable the antivirus for at least 1h or until you restart the machine so that the test has some value.

[BR]

Change the application language to your non-Unicode language or change your non-Unicode language to your application language. But looking at your crash log the problem doesn't seem to have anything to do with the language.

It seems that you are running the application in compatibility mode for Windows 8... disable compatibility mode.
It also seems that you have a controller or joystick with an unsigned driver, your antivirus most likely has a problem with it. Either you remove the controller or you remove the antivirus... Windows Defender is much better option than Avast.

Sorry to hear that, sadly were running out of ideas of whats wrong with your PC.
Have you tried unplugging any controllers you have? reboot the PC nad strat Duckstation without plugging in the controller.
Secondly try starting Duckstation as admin, right mouse click on Duckstation exe and run as admin.

I have some news for you. I've found the source of the problem. It was indeed the CONTROLLER! Everytime I remove it, Duckstations works just fine. Good news is I can finally run the emulator normally and config it. Bad news is I can't play with the controller (duh). Now, the issue is this controller stuff. How do I fix this? (BTW, thanks everyone for the help, the only problem now is the controller).

en: you could probably use the controller with RetroArch and the core called SwanStation (it's exactly the same thing as DuckStation). RetroArch is a little harder to fiddle with, but since you're apparently well-versed in emulators, you shouldn't have too much trouble.

I imagine the controller works with other emulators, right? your problem could be a control driver, etc... it could even be a physical defect too, it's hard to know.

you'll be playing PS1 by the weekend!

br: provavelmente você poderia usar o controle com o RetroArch e o núcleo chamado SwanStation (ele é exatamente a mesma coisa do DuckStation).

Tried this but it didn't work. I'll try the Retroarch method now (if it could be more explained, I'll be grateful). I also found some info about controllers. I found the wiki about Duckstation and after reading about the Controller part, I guess mine won't work (Twin USB Network Gamepad). What do you think?

No reason why it shouldn't work or at the very least it shouldn't be crashing Duckstation.

Have you tried uninstalling Avast?

Here something you can try, start Duckstation without the gamepad connected, go into settings and in the general tab I think look for "Controller Backend" by default it should be SDL, switch it to dinput, close Duckstation to save the settings, connect the controller and start Duckstation to see if it works, if not again disconnect the controller start Duckstation and switch"controller Backend" to xinput.
