Movement is slow when on the world map. What can I do about it?

That's simply the state of emulation at this stage.

get a japanese DQ4
get no$pmp (somewhere in this forum)
get the cheat to unlock the english translation inside DQ4 (should be around here somewhere too but if not, google it)

i think you know what to do next

no$pmp works on japanese DQ5 also, but since there's no english translation hidden inside it and there's no translation patch for it, you're stuck with a moonspeak DQ5

I actually finished the game despite the slow map movement. You get used to it pretty easily and for all the longer your ever on the map it's really not a big deal.

Dragon quest 5 is the same way and I have been playing that also.
