Greetings,

I would consider this to be a consumer warning update. The so called "finished product" Dungeon Lords is in fact barely a beta. It's one of those sad cases where a game has so much potential that is wasted because the developer didn't take the time to actually finish and polish it.

Examples:

1. On the character select screen the ability to modify your characters appearance is greyed out. The options are right there in plain sight, just not accessable.

2. When changing resolutions (which requires a restart) the title screen resolution doesn't scale accordingly. It always stays at 800X600.

3. There are some serious issues with the sound. Although others have reported it working in brief spurts, I never got it to work at all.

4. The collision detection is total crap. Getting stuck on objects all the time is not uncommon.

5. Sometimes the zoom function sticks for no apparent reason, and will then start working again a little while later.

6. When your character dies and falls to the ground, you can still turn the camera. This would be fine except that your corpse turns with you, making you into a kind of "corpse compass".

In summary, this game is a total unfinished POS, and I'm very pissed off about it.

Sincerely,
TastEPlasma

What can I say? I'm desperate for a new good cRPG, and after previewing it over at Gamespot this looked really good. It's too bad I didn't have the sense to download the demo first, then I would have realized what a POS it was going to be. :nono:

I think my next investment is going to have to be paper mario or baten kaitos. God, I would give my right testicle for a basic, menu driven, (2D? fat chance), plot based RPG! Although I don't mind action RPGs. I guess I will just have to wait until summer 2006 for the new Elder Scrolls game.

Same for The Fall, it had a great potential, but the pulisher though it could be
better to compile, burn and sell it for Xmas instead of finishing the development.
As a result, when your run the game, in some place of the splash screens it's written
"Developer version"...
yean, they sell boxed betas now :p
Hopefully I didn't buy it.

Well, I actually looking forward to this game, really has potential from the preview, too bad its unfinished.

I guess I have to wait for a mega patch release before buying it :???:

@TastEPlasma, all problems aside, do you think the game is fun?

Like I and many others have said, the game definetly has potential to be very cool. They just released the first patch (11.7MB), so I will give it a try tonight or tomorrow. Although they make no mention of fixing the problems with the character creation screen, I personally dont think this is really a major issue.

In summary, if it worked, yes I think it would be fun. Regardless of the game itself however, the fact that the publisher pushed an unfinished game onto the market is infuriating.

If I were you I would wait for this patch, and I suspect possibly one more patch to come out. If most/all the problems are fixed by then, and the price drops $10 since they are giving themselves a ****ty reputation, then it might be worth getting. I suppose that old and oft used phrase "Only time will tell." is sufficient to describe this situation.

Greetings,

Zapages: Do you know how to get these japanese famcom games to work on an American install of windows XP (SP1)? I recently managed to acquire a copy of Ys VI (which, BTW, is really cool :D ), and despite changing my regional setting to Japanese and setting the MS IME to Japanese input, I cant get the game to run.

I did find an english patch that makes the config in english, but the in game dialog is still screwy (displays ASCII instead of hiragana/kanji). (ie with the patch the game will run, but I need a way to get the 'gana to display properly.)

Ys is actually a very cool series, I am trying to find a place to get Y's Complete I (& II) for PC, since I found a guy who translated 100% and released a patch for it. Know of any good places?

As for Dungeon Lords I uninstalled it for disk space reasons, and since I have developed a healthy interest in Ys I havent bothered to reinstall and patch. I will someday though. Probably. ;)

Sincerely,

It was doomed the moment the publisher said, "Put in multiplayer instead of finishing the game, it'll be cool and make it sell better, because it's everyone's cup of tea these days!" I'm suprised DW Bradley allowed Dreamcatcher to completely ruin his rumor as a legendary game develoepr, by releasing something like this, I guess he didn't have a choice.

Did you changed your location or the non-unicode program setting? Make sure to change the non-unicode program setting. Location and IME doesn't matter I think.

Greetings,

NM, the secret to getting these japanese games to work is to go into control panel -> regional settings -> advanced, and set the default for non-unicode programs to Japanese. This does the trick! (BTW, the English patch must NOT be applied for everything to display properly.)

Sincerely,
TastEPlasma

I have only ever had the first two problems you stated and the second one has been fixed with the patch.

For me the game has been fairly fun but I am going to wait till the next patch when they put the auto map in the game. (they are also putting in the customization options)

It seems that a good deal of the problems people have in this game are problems to do with there hardware and/or software and not the game itself.

When the next patch comes out (2 or 3 weeks) I'll play the game more (if I can pull myself away from Boiling Point) and it should be just about right for me.
