How come the bad things about the US rarely reach Japan? Forums like www.japantoday.com sounds very much like fox news sometimes. I am suprised that Japan is more afraid of communism than the US. You get labeled bad names if you criticise the American government too much. It seems really strange that many Japanese defend America as hard as American patriots do.

I do remember that there was a time when the US government has some control on Japan's government and remodeled many things to the US way. Their economy is also heavily dependent on the US though.

I just find it strange that people with no experience with Americans would be so actively pro-American. I am not suggesting that Japan should bash America, it is just that somethings seem a little overblown don't you think?

An example would be like.
Its like going to France and everyone wants to be English or going to England and everyone wants to be French. Another phrase would be: out of character. Maybe not as bad as this example but you get the idea.

no america doesn't affect the japanese media.

they are more concerned about communism because china and north korea are two countries which constantly threaten them

Japan and America are friends. Concidering where it came from our relations are amazing. We constantly help each other, politically, militarily, socially.

we did write their constitiution ba ck during the occupation. When they figured out that the wartime propaganda against the US wasn't true many japanese were able to reevaluate their opinion of americans in general. Saying that the japanese have extensive experience mostly positive in the past 60 years( the couple of bad things is the airbase on okinawa and a couple rape cases by US service men there.... considering what i know about the japanese the rape thing is almost expected of any red blooded man with above average drive)

The japanese are very happy being japanese and pride themselves on that fact. They arn't trying to be american, their way of life is what comes from a first world economy. That's why the lifestyles are familiar. An african middle class worker can't expect to have the lifestyle of a japanese person or an american. People in first world societies have access to more technologies and more free time.

personal note... fox news isn't that bad. they are an equal opertunity company as far as politics. Bill O'reilly came to Hillary Clinton's aid the other day, and he banned a republican senator from his show because he skipped a show without calling or anything.

it's got nothing to do with that. we would never do that again. we don't control their government or media. That was 60 years ago. I can't stress how long ago that was. I could have lived my life in it's entirity 3 times. Back then computers were jokes that took up entire air hangers to do simple calculater calculations. Back then the soviet union was a threat. The difference between the world then and now mise as well be the difference between the darkages and today. America has basically retired it's nukes, they are constantly being destroyed and only a couple just incase north korea pulls a stupid stunt. To suggest that japan is taking orders from the US out of fear of being nuked is the most retarded suggestion i've ever heard.

Americans are not the secret overlords of the world. Why so many threads are popping up with such preposterous suggestions.

American influence on TV and movies makes everyone look up to American culture, that’s all. It happens everywhere in the world.

America doesn't influence them, just their culture. Many of the people over there want to be black gangsta rappers. Thus all the terrible J-pop. (Which is more like Kelly Clarkson meets Snoop Dogg)
