I don't think we need one.
Think about this: why do we love PS1 emus?
Because it enhances the graphics of games,I don't see any other reason(except from the fact that everyone doesn't have a PS2).
Now,about the PS2,does the graphics really need to be enhanced?
I don't think so.
But why does everyone wants a PS2 emu then? Maybe because they just want it to be emulated, but the only point in emulating the PS2 is for people who don't own one.
I have a PS2 and games on it looks much better than any of my PC games,OK,maybe it would look a bit better in high resolutions, but not something that is worth the hardwork of an emu team,I personnaly think that emu authors shouldn't even waste their time with PS2 emulation(and even GameCube).

P.S.:If someone could emulate Xbox really soon,it would be cool, that would make M$ fail:evil:

We don't "need" any emulators. Most people want a PS2 emulator because they decided to get one of the other systems or something. I personally want one because I just like being able to play any system on one unit. Not having to move ten consoles to play one system has its advantages. From what I've seen, PS2 games could be improved slightly on the PC, although I'm not as sure about the GC and Xbox. Besides, when has it been about enhancing the game? Many people use VGS despite the fact it's an inferior copy of the PSX.

While I'm at it, I'll move this to misc console discussion because that's closer to where it should be (at least for now).

It'll be cheaper to buy a DC now rather than waiting for an emu. ;)

Well in my case I never actually bought a console (the only one I ever got was a broken psx that a mate threw out that I managed to fix) . Hence I like the fact that emus enable me to experience these games. I don't NEED it as such, but if there is one in existance I'll definately USE it. Besides when the psx came out the (95?) the best pc games graphically were much worse than psx ones. Basically wait and see what happens.

Raziel,
I agree that we dont need a ps2 emulator part, but in the view of a MS basher, I dont agree on the xbox emulator part. I dont own a PS so I never buy any PS game before I found epsxe and now I have more PS games than PC games. Microsoft actually sell xbox at lost so if there is any xbox emulator, I bet that Bill Gate will be very happy with that, atleast he dont have to lost so much money on the hardware part and yet receiving income from the software part. Sony hate emulation because that will kind of encourage people to ask for port from PS to PC. Xbox at it current stage is not a market leader so anything that will help MS to get more market share will be welcome there.

I disagree. If old Bill is going to be so happy that windows based pcs can run x-box games he certainly wouldn't have encrypted the disks... making sure that they couldn't be read on pcs.

What he would have done is released a cheap cut down console that ran windows games. That way you wouldn't even need an emulator.

A PS2 emulator would be cool but people should wait until PS3 comes out before they release a PS2 emulator. Also I want all of the good emu minds working on ps1 right now since I have a ton of ps1 games and my ps1 console is on the brink of death.

He wouldnt be too happy with the emulator once he got 90% market share and everyone have to make game for xbox, but at this time, a little bit help.:)

Here's an idea: if only Sony would cooperate with would-be PS2 emu authors, throw in a little funding on software development and sh1t like that. Think about it: if there was a Sony-licensed PS2 emu for the PC, then the game developers wouldn't have to bother with porting their PS2 games to the PC.
