Your thoughts on this game?

I had my doubts when this was announced. When i saw a gameplay video i thought it looked ok but after watching this, one thing came to mind

WTF!?

watch the video first and then read this

'The character went through many stages of development, with his final design being chosen due to his Greek and brutal characteristics. Kratos uses a distinctive main weapon in all of the God of War games. The chain blades (...).

The character has received a mostly positive critical reception, being described by reviewers as a sympathetic antihero, while his gameplay was perceived as a nightmare to his enemies, but a dream to control. His role in the first game's plot received a similar reaction, particularly his tragic fall and brutal ascension to the peaks of Mount Olympus.

The main idea when creating Kratos was to design someone that looked brutal, while separating its appearance from what is considered the traditional Greek hero. The character's look was supposed to feel violent and impulsive.

Throughout the series, Kratos acts as an anti-hero, often making immoral decisions to further his goal; sacrificing unprotected humans for example. Prior to the start of the series, he served as the captain of Sparta's army and was only interested in increasing his power by conquering his opponents. His personality changes when he becomes a servant to Ares, after which he faithfully followed the god's orders. After he stopped serving Ares, Kratos continues to serve the gods in order to receive forgiveness, but shows a defiant stance against them. In the first game, Kratos' main motive is revenge. The Olympic gods turn against him and he is humbled, being sent to Hell by Zeus. However, when he is saved he shows a mighty ambition to kill Zeus, it's most likely not because of the Titan's plea, but because he again wants revenge on a god.'

There is nothing wrong with borrowing ideas from other games but why they have to make it so blatant?

Why are a couple of good clones bad? Until the market gets over saturated with the same game redone, I say bring it on.

I really like the idea of bringing to life an interpretation of the poem, and some of the imagery in the game I feel is rather good. I'll pass judgement when its released however, but I am excited to give this a game a go.

I dont have a problem when it comes to gameplay. But it bothers me when they directly rip off the story. Dantes story here is almost identical to Kratos.

Dantes skin on his chest to remind him all the evil stuff he as done/ Kratos ashes of his dead wife and daughter as a reminder too.

Anti Hero, not a good guy, brutal nature but he reaches a point when he doesnt know if he can keep doing this. Directly from God of War.

Plus that scythe is obvious ripoff from Ninja Gaiden 2!

But I'm not really bothered as it could be awesome too... Who knows, we'll see when it comes out.

Don't really like how the character looks though, hopefully they change that...

Talk about rip off, seriously why can't people make games anymore without copying something else? What happened to creativity and innovation?
My thoughts are its the same thing that happened with movies. Innovation is risk. They simply don't know if it will succeed or not. Its easier to stick with the tried and true, the safe path. Something they believe will surely grant them success. When these businesses create these projects whether they be movies or videogames huge sums of money are spent, and they cannot risk incurring loss. The games are getting more and more expensive to produce, so that means publishers are willing to take take less and less risk. In the short term this probably seems like a very god idea as they won't make a megaflop, but in the long run it leads to stagnation.

Perhaps also creativity left with the capital. The 90s and early 2000s were much more bullish marketplaces with people willing to take risks in order to get ahead. It was the tech industry gold rush and everyone wanted a piece. People were willing to take risks and throw capital at tech companies as well as videogame companies. It was a tech bubble though, first we had the internet tech bubble burst in 2000, now its going to be even worse in the aftermath of the housing bubble and banking collapse. So it may be getting harder and harder for developers to raise capital. So more then ever they will need to stick with the tried and true. Or perhaps merge with other companies to pool their resources.

So God of War is original? I find it quite the rip-off of Sword of the Berserk on Dreamcast, to be honest: Hack and slash your way through hordes of enemies, lots of gore, and some QTEs (popularized by in the 128gen by Shenmue) to finish it. They just picked a different setting than an anime but otherwise it's been done before...

So well, all who are screaming "OMG, GOW ripoff" should just go and do their homework to see where their favorite game comes from. Just how many other current games are based on one of the gaming archetypes.

That said, I want a PC version of that game, and an Iced Earth soundtrack.

I haven't read the original, but wasn't this supposed to be based on Dante's Inferno, something that's quite a bit older than the GoW games?

If you are talking about the story, then, by the Zeus's almighty beard, you are so, so, so, sooo wrong. Dante's Inferno is based on a poem that, if I recall my history classes, was written before Christ came.

In terms of gameplay, I can't see how it's a bad thing to copy GoW's style. GoW had a perfect mix of great level design and a fun combat system. Everytime smashing enemies got boring, the game threw you a puzzle to keep things fresh. The QTE's were a bit overdone, but I enjoyed them.

I only hope Dante's Inferno is half the game God of War is.

Legend of Dragoon's battle system could be counted as QTEs. Somewhat. Though they probably date from WAY before then.

That said, I too want a PC version of that game, if only to try it out and make the PC genre-spread bigger. I'm tired of FPSs and strategy games one after the other.

i want a pc version too, the pc is getting fewer interesting games, and they are becoming fewer between. not very interested in all the fps games, i'm one of those that haven't gotten one of the next gen consoles, i'm still in college so the money goes to various fees, like a place to live, food, books, etc.

and whats the use of a decent gaming pc if there's not coming out any decent pc games for it.

i atleast would welcome more decent hack and slash games for the pc.

i didnt reply to that comment because he said "popularized" and not invented. QTE have been going on since the sega cd i think. The Power Ranger game was all QTE.
If I recall correctly, wasn't it Dragon's Lair that used QTE's since its graphics consisted of videos, since rendering power was next to nothing back then? Anyway, I'm all for combining the good stuff of other games to make a new game. Still, if looking for a game in this genre with more originality I think Brütal Legend will offer a better experience.
