Crysis was on cryengine 2, right?

I remember seeing almost the exact same demo for crysis/cryengine 2, getting super excited for it and DX10, then the game looks NOTHING like the demo.

As long as Crysis 2 has a story-line and gameplay experience as epic as Crysis (and Warhead), I couldn't care less about the graphics/graphics engine......so long as the minimum system requirements aren't 3GHz quad-core + GTX280.

That old crysis video was actually prerendered video made to look like in game footage. This video of cry3engine doesn't seem like much of a visual improvement over crysis in-game at veryhigh or customized ultrahigh settings (well at least in the jungle/forested settings). The character body movement does look improved though on that girl they showed running through the grass and the way her torso contorts and she moves. And the tools for designers modders do look improved. But visually i can't perceived any improvements in the jungle sequences. I guess teh destructible walls are nice too.

It's all hype. For one, as someone already pointed out, we've seen this before with Crysis (1), and also Far Cry 2 even. Remember that the prime reason for making this engine is for them to be able to target multiple systems (make Crysis on the consoles, attract more buyers of the engine since more are making for consoles, etc.), so in other words, think of it as Cry Engine 2 dumbed down to be able to perform on the consoles with some tweaks and added features. Visually, it's really nothing seriously new. It actually looks worse in some cases than Cry Engine 2, and slightly better in others.

Nah, brings nothing new to the table. If anything, probably more optimized... :p

They should have called this Cryengine 2.5 to be honest... but my guess is that since Cryengine 2 was bugged beyond repair, they had to build 3 from the ground up. :innocent:

If it's more optimized, I hope that means minimum specs are lower than Cryengine 2. My netbook can barely handle Cryengine 2 at an "explorable" frame rate as it is.

It's not out yet and you're assuming it's bug free and optimized unlike anything else? Have fun buying into the hype. We've seen this from them before. I'll reserve judgment until I've tried it. I'm only commenting so far on what I see versus the hype. It's honestly nothing spectacular, and considering the main reasons for this engine to even exist, it's no surprise to me that it isn't.

lolz your taking things to seriously chill :p. It is true i'm interested in Crysis 2 but i'm with GF on this one it has nothing to do with graphics its about story/gameplay/sound that is what made me love the previous game, many here know i'm far from a graphic whore and graphics although welcomed is not one of the main criteria's that make me want a game. As for the rest it was a way to say that i would be ok with it being an optimized Cry 2 engine as long as it would be OPTIMIZED, so don't make blunt assumptions on my account k? thx.

I'm not taking anything seriously. I was just trying to tell you not to jump the gun.

By the way, the topic is about Cry Engine 3, not Crysis 2, so you're assuming our comments were about the latter when they were about the former.

Of course it's not all about graphics with games. I'm a gamer, not a marketer. I enjoyed the story and gamplay of both Crysis and Crysis Warhead, despite the hype, bugs, and whatnot about the engine and graphics. I'm also looking forward to Crysis 2, but I'm not going in expecting anything just yet.

So basically this is the final version of cryengine2 1.0, and we were all just partaking in a mass public beta for our good friends down at Crytek when we played Crysis. :p
