I just find this alittle strange.. is it normal for the rear left/right speakers to sound the wrose out of the rest? movie playback it isnt like this. but mp3 playback the rear speakers are real weak... i mean, REAL weak.i have to be right next to it to beable to hear it. The front/side speakers sound normal. i can atleast hear those. but the rear just seems to be a whole nother issue. oO iirc stero sound was supposed to send a stero output through each pair of speakers isnt it?

Check that you haven't set balance almost completely to the front speakers.

Its because mp3s are played through stereo. Which only uses the front speakers. And creatives "cmss 3d" system upmixes it to the rear ones, but they wont be as loud.. You can select "stereo surround" in the EAX Advanced HD (under the CMSS 3D tab) which will play the stereo signal over each speaker pair... And that should make all the speakers sound the same...

EDIT: Never mind what I said above, on my setup it also sounds that same, the rear speakers arent nearly as loud as the 4 front ones. I have a Creative Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro. And the Inspire 7.1.... I guess all of them are like that...

creative has BS drivers, all of its surround sound stuff from stereo sound is complete and utter crap. you're gonna have to live with 2.1 sound.

u guys know anything about those Kxproject Drivers? iirc i read some stuff about it but they mainly focused on dvd playback instead of multi-channel mp3 playback, i know for a fact it didnt have EAX so i was wondering how it worked without it on multi channel setups

its more like 4.1 - with some faint sound in the rear...
more so if your using winamp, those 5.1 output pluggins are utter CRAP on sb systems. all i get is static using those

the KX drivers are ok. they dont work as well for games as the real creative drivers though, although, the KX drivers had nice sound and good surround last time i tried. i should try em out again.

by the way, CMSS and CMSS2 are so damned crappy. i cant believe anyone would actually constantly keep their music in that mode all the time oO

Yeah, the five front ones play fine, its the rear two that don't work too well... I guess they dont really have it configured for 7.1, it seems like they only made it for 5.1
yeah almost everything now adays is setup for 5.1. i guse 7.1 is too new for real actual support :thumb:

why do u think i use the stero output ;) CMSS2 actualy kindof ruins dvd playback alot of times.

i might give those kx drivers a shot..

Edit
yea their crap, i cant seem to get 7.1 out of em

7.1's not that bad, only differance is it not to well supported with most dvd programs,or anything else for that matter. unless you use something like power dvd or win dvd which outputs the sound to 7 speakers even though it was mainly recorded in 5.1 EX , either way i can choose between 5 and 7 since i can always output both easly :D

Attach a external amplifier that supports Prologic or Prologic 2 surround, enable CMSS in light mode and it simply sounds great. A true surround sound in games.

ok, or i can turn off CMSS and play a game that uses old EAX (4 channel surround liek CS), a newer EAX (5 channel like halo, Colin Mcrae rally, etc) or software 5.1 (HL2, Doom3) and it will sound sexy, and i dont need any external amp just my Logitech 5.1 speakers.

besides, i dont like "fake" surround sound. Dolby ProLogic blows chunks. ProLogic2 is an improvement, but only for games that are actually programmed for it (i.e. Gamecube games). muxing extra channels out of a stereo source (for the games that actually dont have surround) is not only ugly sounding, but it's worthless for two reasons. for one, if the game doesnt need surround, it probably doesnt have it. example, NFSU2. do i really need to hear my car in 5.1? not really. also, muxing fake surround channels doesnt really give you actually surround. you're not hearing something happening behind you, next to you, etc. it's just muxed to make it seem like it is.

yeah cmss actualy annoyed me to the point last night where i reverted my system to a 5.1 I still stored the other 2 speakers around with the rest of my computer stuff. but 7.1 is VERY poorly supported by alot of programs. makes me regret not buying just the regular 5.1

Hushy : regarding movie playback on 7.1 if outputed correctly, it CAN sound good. the best method is to use PowerDVD and turn on 'noisy enviorment' to get that extra sound boost. but 5.1 EX sounds better though since thats what it was actualy recorded in. sometimes 7.1 can be very poor sound depending on what dvd software you use...

and regardless CMSS usualy would ruin the surround to where it would mainly be your front 3 speakers that u can mostly hear. ;)

EDIT

AGH! Even with Winamps 5.1 Output ( K.B. 5.1 Channel v1.00 ) it wont output sound to rear speakers. you absolutly have to turn on CMSS just to get the rear to work

i used to have proper dual stereo surround working with my audigy. cant remember how i did it though, as right now im in stereo ;)

btw, with powerDVD i used (not anymore because it mysteriously wont work) quiet environment...to get that full range of dolby sound. my speakers are loud i can just crank the knob :D

I always read this. Strange enough my audigy one doesn't have this problem. I always get sound from the 4 speakers when i play a mp3. I updated my drivers with the audigy2's hacked version and that problem arose. Sound coming just from the front speakers. I didn't knew cmss had the option to make it sound like the audigy one (enabling stereo sorround in the Eax advanced hd). Gotta try them again. One thing is for sure. Even the mixer of the audigy 2 takes 3 more seconds to load or close omparing it with the audigy one's.

If you have 5.1 speakers then thats great and you definetly not need ext amplifier. I dont, but i have this prologic amp before, and GREAT speakers and subwoofer and it sounds great. Plus it does give a feeling that sound is coming from back with proper amplifier and virtual effects. In morrowind i took some sound source, stood next to it and turned around 360 degrees. Sound went around me. Of course it wont be nearly as accurate as digital 4 channel speakers or 5.1 cuz rear speakers are played in mono, but its good enough with proper devices. And EAX sounds (which has NOTHING to do with surround sound to speaks, except virtual surrounding. It just gives effects to sounds) creams the crop. (not in morrowind since it doesnt support EAX, but it was just an example)
