Ever exciting work on <a href="http://www.pcsx2.net">PCSX2</a> produces yet more results. Recent fixes to VU and VIF have allowed even more games to start showing correct graphics, such as Project Zero, Auto Modelista, Resident Evil - Dead Aim, Smackdown - Here Comes the Pain etc.<br><br>Thanks to <a href="http://www.ngemu.com/forums/member.php?userid=40719">MiKE41</a> for sending me memcard saves for Final Fantasy X-2 (PAL/UK), I have been able to get further ingame. Well I am running an AMD64 3200+ / 1GB RAM / GeForce 5950u, other testers run similiar, Rudy X runs Dual 6800's and has 2GB of RAM, so I and the other testers run pretty 'decent' rigs ;)

Both bositman and Rudy_x have AMD Athlon 64 4000+'s. bositman has a GeForce 6600GT and Rudy_x has dual 6800 Ultras in SLi :p.

well I'm running a 3400+ 64, gig 'o ram and a 6800GT Overclocked to Ultra clocks, so I'm glad it's around the same as the testers, means it's mroe likely to get full FPS by the time the Emu reaches 1.0 ^_^

Oh my! How much longer we must wait? :'(

Wow! Every news about the PCSX2 development is exciting! It will got me crazy!

Yesterday I tried to run Final Fantasy X (running a DVD, not an image) in pcsx2 v.0.8.1 and I got impressed with the results.

Using the Japanese BIOS I can reach the Main game screen (New game/Load game screen) running very well at 60% fps and about 3% CPU load.
But after this screen the FPS droped to 2% and I could reach the game screens 1 unique time :(. My other attempts I cannot reach the game screens (I dont know why exactly, since I've used the same config).

Well, I used: GSdx9 0.8 (Windowed, Direct3d, Pixel Shader 1.4, Linear Texture Filtering), SPU2null Driver 0.4, P.E.Op.S CDVD Driver 1.2 (Thread Read, aditional 4MByte data cache, Try again on reading error: 5), Patches Enabled and CPU Recompiler.
My system is: Athlon XP 3000+ BT, 768 mb DDR ram 333MHz, GeForce FX 5500 256mb DDR.

That was the first time I tried to emulate something in PCSX2, since in the last versions I could not run nothing, because the emulator crashes everytime.

Now I'll test many games as I can to stay tunned.

Well, simply GREAT WORK AGAIN GUYS!!!

Correction!!

If a 64bit build will be released, it will be slower because REC/Vurec doesn't work! INT only for now!

This post made me think a little. I've been using Emulators for, err, roughly 5 years i'd say. And I fear Kushan's dreams will be shattered sooner or later. Even with the great progress PCSX2 is making right now it may take years before it reaches a state comparable to, say epsxe.

Or what do you other long-term-emu-scene-watchers think?

I haven't the slightest idea about programming but from what i can see even with major code optimisations demanding 3D games like FFX or Xenosaga wont be anywhere near full speed on todays machines. We will all have to upgrade. And seeing the work and time that is still needed i'd say by then we'll all have new rigs anyway.

Or am i completely wrong? Would you developers/beta-testers say there's enough performance in todays computers for a fully fledged PS2 emu? I've been wondering bout this for a while.

kind regards
Hatman

Well I'm not expecting results any time soon, nor am I expecting the Emu to run perfectly on my current config, I was just saying that as the tester's systems are similar to my own.
Don't forget, it was only a year or so ago that the emu was able to just about run the BIOS at like 5FPS, now it's running games at 20FPS and stuff, that's quite an improvement and I don't think it's really all that to do with faster hardware.
Besides, once they implement stuff like SSE3 and Multi-threading for Dual core CPU's, you'll see those FPS skyrocket and I'm sure there's still a hell of a lot of other code optimizations they can do to squeeze every last drop out of your system.
