Is K-Lite Mega Codec Pack the best way to get all of the codecs I would ever need?

I suggest using ffdshow instead. You can find it on sourceforge.net

If that's the case, then I don't know what use any of the other things in that pack would be. ffdshow can play divx, xvid, mpeg4, ogm, etc, -- everything I throw at it. I've never had a problem.
