I have been playing chrono cross on ePsxe and ocasionally black covers up the screen. Now it has only happened in two places: when I found the Masamune right before the dead sea, and now when I used the chrono cross on Kid.

Now the only thing that I can guess is that there is some effect over the scene and it is simply coming up black. I'm hoping someone has seen this error before and can help.

if you are running into effect that might be giving trouble, try using petes (or someone else's) software plugin, since they tend to be more compatible.

I am having the same problem. No idea how to fix it though. I am using Pete's D3D 1.50 on nVidia GeForce. Anyone else knows how to fix this? Thanks.

you must enable Full vram primitives to see all the goodies, but it would be slow for 90% of people.
