Well.I have quite the impression you just either (intentionally?) misread my posts or simply don't read them at all. Anyway. Read the last phrase of my last post.

Rikki makes sense though. If you have users changing their name often it would be pretty chaotic to the rest of us users. I myself used to do it when I first started up, it was hilarious but some people actually started to think that I was Refraction. (_E_ put a stop to the festivities) So it makes sense to ask an Admin first.

Errr, If I change my username, why should I give a damn if someone take my old nick? What if someone take Nhervé as username?And anyway, If there is a mechanism that allowed to avoid it when username change is made by admin, this mechanism should be reusable if you give this power to users, shouldn't it?

You ever used cellphones? Its no fun when suddenly out of the blue you find out all numbers in your contacts list have been taken by someone else and you are left clueless who is who.

A public log? If it does not exist when an admin change the nick of somebody, why should it exist if an user is able to do so

Although most admins remember the username changes and make sure that there are no confusions but now I have an even better idea. I will suggest this to other admins and if they all agree make it mandatory to post all username changes in a single sticky thread.

Two things about this thread, first, helping the user instead of going slightly off-topic would have been nice, secondly, we'll never allow users to change nicks, this board would become a ****ing mess full of "I've changed my nick because I've watched/listenned blah blah blah" threads.
