Right, this could probably be applied to any 2D game, but can anyone give me a rough idea to the optimum settings for playing Symphony of the Night? I'm using Pete's D3D Driver 1.75 with the scph1001 BIOS.

My specs are:

INTEL Pentium 4 3Ghz
ATI Radeon 9100 IGP
512 MB O-board RAM

Also, while I'm here, how do you stop FMV sequences from going at ridiculously fast speeds.

If anyone wants to help, thanks in advance.

well try pete's opengl2 with offscreen drawing at 2, the option below it at 3 and the one below it at 2. (you can probably get away with much lower configs, but i think your computer can handle it and why not?)
and remember to enable "use fps limit" to stop fast speeds

if you got any more specific problems, ask and we'll give you more specific help

Well, I don't have any Open GL shaders, so I just took your advice and transposed to the D3D ones. It looks good. Thanks for your help.

As for specific problems... does anyone know how to solve the break-up in the pixels? In the introductory fight, Dracula's cape seems to have... for want of a better word, seams visible. White lines that slightly break the sprite up, making the cape look like it was patched out of four squares. Would anyone know how to fix that little problem?

I'd use the p.E.o.P.s soft plugin, myself.
Great. That seems to have fixed it. But now the sound plug-in's out of whack. Slight distortion and cracking.

Anyone care to recommend to me an appropriate sound plug-in for SotN?

Thanks for all the help so far. Really appreciate it.

Eternal SPU is good for me... Might want to play with the buffer size, set it to 32 or 64 or whatever, till it works correctly..
I wouldn't suggest peops GPU for anything, personally, and SOTN _DOES_ have some 3d stuff that will look ugly on it, try lowering the filtering in d3d or opengl2 or whatever to 0 and see if it solves that problem. if it doesn't, stop listening to me and use peops :p

I too, suggest Eternal SPU, but don't listen to BRILLIANT :D because PeOpS soft is superior for everything 2d.. and the 3d effects doesn't look that horrible.

I wish someone could write a plugin that did 2d as good as peops soft, and 3d as good as pete's 3d plugins though, that'd be great for games like Grandia, Star Ocean 2, SOTN, ToA, ToE and xenogears, to mention but a few.

Me again.

Having decided to transfer eveything to my main rig (I was trying to restore my little brother's long-lost PSX collection on his system), I tried using Pete's Open GL 2 drivers. It worked well enough, but p.e.o.p.s. looked a whole lot crisper, so I decided to stick with it. The 3D effects aren't as nice, but still prettier than if I was using a real PSX.

The problem is, Eternal SPU seems to have real compatibility issues with p.e.o.p.s. All sorts of cracking and tearing that never ocurred with Pete's plague my game. Messing around with the buffer doesn't seem to be doing anything than delaying anything that isn't background music.

If anyone has an alternative/solution and the time to help me out (yet again) I would be most grateful.

Ow, that's a pity!, did you try with putting on both auto-frameskipping or setting a fixed amount of skipping , in the P.e.O.p.S soft plugin? otherwise that can mess with the audio ( while your at it don't forget vsync otherwise it can look bad )
