I went to post this in the first thread, but low and behold Elly closed it due to a very minor flame. It wasn't even a flame war, more like a battle between matchsticks. It just goes to show you how much this place has changed and proves the point of this post:

Cloudvii:

I have already posted in several threads relating to this topic, often complaining that things have changed and that I want the "good 'ole days" back. Most people replied with advice similar to "try to improve the board yourself, etc."

After some careful thought, I have come to the conclusion that this board will never be the same way as it used to be, as long as we (the older generation) stay here.

Like many of you, I registered at emuforums because I had some questions about epsxe configurations. But I stayed around the forums because there was so much more going on other than the emulation stuff. There were tons of interesting and informative threads in the hardware discussion forum (still informative, but less now) and lots of crazy stuff happening in the open discussion forum (the plan, maggots vs. batards, etc). Not only were members very crazy and creative, but they were helpful as well. I remember starting a number of threads asking questions ranging from what ps2 games I should buy to whether I could have 2 gfx cards installed in my raggedy-a$$ computer, and there were always board members who were happy to answer my questions.

But now look at the boards. Instead of crazy half-wit idiots running around the open discussion forum trying to recruit members for their strangely named armies, we have members who just post flash-cartoons or funny things from other sites. Instead of being helpful and answering n00bish questions, we shrink back and hope someone else will take up the "chore" of explaining things.

And who is to blame? We are. Some say we have become mature, but I think we have become jaded and no longer give a damn about most things that happen around here. We aren't as creative or crazy as we used to be, and when someone else tries to do something even remotely new or fun, we either ignore it or insult the member for being so stupid. I know this has happened on several occassions when i brought up the plan. Instead of running with it, members responded in a serious fashion and ended the fun right away.

Over the course of this board's life, we have become increasingly serious and strict about the rules. As a result, fewer n00bs stay around and contribute. I know they're annoying, especially in the pcsx2 forum, but they are essential to the life of NGEmu. But everytime we ban, insult, ignore, flame, or chastise a n00b, we lose another potentially creative member of NGEmu.

Right now, we hold the power in emuforums. Younger members look up to us to see how they should behave. But that's the problem. We are so serious, stuck-up, and jaded that we ignore and destroy any chance for creativity. We need to step back, not post as much, lessen the severity of the rules, and pass on the torch to the n00bs and younger members. Of course, they will require guidance, but I don't think we should run NGEmu for them. Let them make the decisions, post news, make new threads, enforce rules. Let's appoint some newer, less-experienced members to be mods and retire the old ones.

I know there are some problems/issues in what I have proposed, but unless we take a step in that direction, Emuforums will only become a population of older, serious, mature members barring newer members from creativity.
