Can I play through Star Ocean with emulators?

I just start playing Star Ocean : The 2nd Story on ePSXe.
Someone said it will freeze before any FMVs.
I played this game 1 hour and not reached FMV point yet.
My question is : Can I really play through this game with emulators?
If "NO" then I'll just stop playing now and wait for future fix.
Thank you for your advice. ^_____^

Yes, you can play it through with emulators.
Although not in ePSXe. What you have to do is, right before you get to an FMV save then convert the save to VGS format and then play through that section with VGS, save then convert the save back to epsxe, then go from there. This will happen a few times.
If you dont want to go through all that all the time try just playing it through with VGS, it wont look as good of course. :)
Just about all of what you need will be in the PSX section of NGEmu.

SO2 runs fine in FPSE too, you might try using that one. Most people find it a little difficult to configure thought.

If you use VGS tho it will crash after battles, if you win the battle that is. and I think it just crashes when you gain a level. very annoying. and further more its no every FMV it crashes at, as far as I know, just one of them. its a 3 part FMV, gets through the first 2 parts, then crashes, weird. :( thats the only spot I had to convert for, rest is smooth sailing. although I haven't beaten the game yet so I wouldn't know baout the very end of disc 1 and all of disc 2.
Still remember how null's sound plugin behaved in FF9,
when you where on the plane and the guy shouted "We are going to crash!" and it DID crash on FMV after that :)
and ePSXe used to freeze with ANY plugin at FF9 FMV:s...
sad :(
VGS Crashes after battles? Almost at the end and I've never had the problem. I used VGS all the way except at the very beginning, where I used bleem. VGS was unknown during that time. :emb:
hmm, it always crashed for me, in the beginning, with the Rena plot even after that first exibition match between Clyde and that monster in the beginning. you crash to windows desktop. hmm are you using VGS 1.4 or 1.4.1? maybe one of them has the prob and the other might not.

who's clyde? maybe you mean claude. :p

anyway, mine's 1.4.1 with no games.txt, only morlac backup cd patch.
Just wanna confirm...

Hi everybody.
I've finished Star Ocean The Second Story (Claude's part) using VGS 1.3. Before that, I've tried using VGS 1.41 and VGS 1.4, and it will ALWAYS crash to Windows after you win a battle. Using VGS 1.3 seem to fix the problem, but when I'm near the end of the game (reaching Fienal), the same problem sometimes occurs. I've made the iso's of the game and played it with Daemon tools, but that didn't fix the problem. So, my only solution is train my characters carefully, save often, and always run from battles. If anybody know something about this, your help and opinion would be highly appreciated. Thanks.
There are two movies it locks up on, both on disk 1. I heard from somebody it might lock up on the ending movie too, but I'm not sure. I used Bleem! to get past the first movie but I don't recommend that, use FPSE or VGS instead.
Works perfectly!

Hello everyone.
I've tried the Morlac backup CD patch on VGS 1.41 (thanks to Keiichi), and when I play Star Ocean The Second Story, it works perfectly without any problem. No more crash after battles, the movie run perfectly. I'm now playing in Rena's plot and nearly reaching CD 2. So, the conclusion is for anyone who has problems playing the game using emulators, try using VGS 1.41 with Morlac backup CD patch on it.
Thanks and good luck!
don't forget the games.txt, guys.... i forgot i had it in my VGS folder. :emb: fufufu....
damn it, NOW i hear about SO not being fully playable w/ epsxe... after i had already spent 2 full dayz to juz get the 1st CD... :shout:
the graphics look real tight tho.
hopefully dis is on the fix list for epsxe new version.
Hey lizardj it's not that pad just use something like like ConvetM or MemManager to change the memory card format, then use another emulator.
