well im buying a new videocard tomorrow....ok well actually my mom is, she wanted something to buy me for christmas and here it is.

so basically it's between a 6600GT and a 6800.

6600GT

6800

what i was wondering was...is there that much of a difference to really press my mom to spend the extra 50 bucks? the 6600GT has DDR3...but it's only 128bit....BUT it does have that sweet Doom3 HSF and it comes with a cool cable (no chance of that being TV in, is there? :( ). i think the 6800 is faster...but is it really worth the 50 bucks and perhaps added hassle of begging? will everyone make fun of me to get a 6600GT? (with a doom HSF no less? there is another 6600GT i could get on the site so if the Doom HSF is too lame lemme know).

The 6600GT IIRC is roughly equal to the 6800 till FSAA is enabled.

hm well i was browsing the site and i found something interesting. i've always been meaning to ask so here goes. why do some cards have different speeds? here's an example. i've noticed that most 6600GTs are 500 core 1000 RAM. but...

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-145-107&depa=0 << 500/900

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-170-082&depa=0 << 500/400 [maybe thats 800? it doesnt even seem like it has DDR3]

and the others are 500/1000.

well...i dont know im still thinking about which one to get. i really hate the Doom HSF now that i think of it so i am leaning towards the 6800 (there arent any other 6600GTs in stock..)

6800NU Has 3900 Fillrate
23.2 gigs of Bandwith

6600GT has 4000 Fillrate
16.6 gigs of bandwith.

Without AA they are pretty similar. I still recommend getting a 6800NU. You might be able to unlock the extra pipelines. And its a gaurentee on the vertex unit. For additional performance.

Of course some AGP models have different clock speeds. So they only have 14 gigs of bandwith.

PCIE Reference = 500/1000

AGP Reference= 500/900

Honestly spend the 50 bucks. Save yourself some hassle. Get a 6800NU.

Congrats Hushy. Makes my 9600XT seem like.. well.. crap. :p

I just got myself a Zalman Heatpipe GPU cooler from Will (guy I got the CPU from) aswell as an MSI FX 5200 which it's currently on.. still looking for a small enough screwdriver to take it all the way off (it's half-way now) with and slap on my card. :p

Sweet.. just got it on. :D Found a small screwdriver.. I had to use so much AS5, about half a full tube. Worth it though. With an 80mm fan temps went down from about 54C (according to ATi Tool) to about 40C idle. Whoa.. Time to try for 600MHz core. ;)

My drugs huh.. Extra Strength Tylenol? ;)

:2love: Zalman.
