New Format BIOS for the next version of PCSX2!

Florin has just released BIOS Dumper v2.0 which you can grab from our Downloads>Tools Section here.

This program will dump the PS2 BIOS, DVD Player ROM, NVM etc from your PlayStation 2 via a 'host' enabled connection.

PCSX2 0.9.4 will be using the new format BIOS (*.p2b) created by BIOS Dumper v2.0, as it dumps a more "complete" copy of the BIOS. It is highly recommended that you redump your BIOS to get a more complete dump and thus enable PCSX2 to more accurately emulate the PlayStation 2 :)

You won't need to throw away your old BIOS files, as a convertor will be released in the future to convert the older format to P2B. Conversion is no substitute for a redump as converted BIOS's will not contain the new information dumped from BIOS Dumper v2.0.

The source code for this tool will be made available shortly on sf.net. For now grab the tools here and get dumping! :p

Feedback

please provide here your feedback about how the dumper tool worked for you.

The converter tool for older bioses will be made available before the release of 0.94 or with it.

We hope that with the new bios style, the information will be more accurate.

I'd also like to follow up with a brief visual aid, because some people on IRC (won't name names) didn't quite get it

[PS2] > [PS2 Dumper v2.0] > [HDD] > [V2.0.P2B] file > PCSX2, weee!!!

[OLD BIN FILE+ROM#] > [Convertor] > [HDD] > [V1.1.P2B] file > PCSX2, less weee!!!

Can also pcsx2 0.9.4 read the old bios files ROM,BIN?
No, hence the convertor will be released, but given you all dumped your own BIOS's to start with, you'd just be able to use the new dumper ;)

Can you say what could be the main improvement of the new bios?
Better compatibility?
More speed?
A more stable pcsx2?

:heh:

Improved compat is a potential outcome of the new BIOS (soon to be preferably called "PS2 Identity".).

PS2 Identity will contain MAC address information, units serial number, the DVD player EROM with a diff file (for decryption), additional bits and bobs etc etc

It's especially essential that you dump your own BIOS for potential network emulation, can't have thousands users with the same serial / mac address signing on to play PSU or FF11 now can we ;)

This doesn't bring more speed, but it brings alot of essentials to the PS2 emulation table.

I read the info from "read me" but I see that the USB support is experimental and that the only way I can redump my bios again using this tool,I hope I wont have any problems
The experimental stuff i got from ps2dev readme on usbmass, along with the usb drivers. Don't worry, it won't blow your computer or ps2.

The only thing it can do is to messup the filesystem on the USB stick.
The experimental message is also at least one year old.
So it has been tested and re-tested till now. I, personaly, never experienced any problem with that usb driver. So till someone will come and say "it corrupted my filesystem", don't worry.

If you realy want to be 100% safe, wear a condom and just use an empty USB stick.

Actually what I mean about the experimental stuff was because the only way to dump my bios is to dump it to my USB stick, and I was thinking that I may have problems(some errors or damaged dumped bios and etc.)...but anyway thanks for the info

can i ask u sth. first i need to write the files to a DVD then i pop it to my ps2
and connect my usb stick and then will be ok it will work?
Yeah, that's what the .iso was provided is for.
Burn it to cd/dvd and run
The interface will ask/wait for a USB storage device: USB stick, pendrive, psp, camera, mobile phone, mp3 player, anything that can be connected to a pc and "have" a letter assigned :D

it will NOT work with usb hdds with partitions or ntfs filesystems.

Nah, don't worry. PCSX2 0.94 will detect that the files are corrupted or anything.

But it's the case where it either works or it doesn't and you'll know.

In any case, let us know how it went, cheers :)

Hmm now what I'm waiting for more than 10 minutes but nothings happen,I have light indicator on my USB stick and he flashes when is been used to save, delete, move, copy info from it but....

Do I need to burn a CD with the dumper or I can use my Dev.Modes?
I'm trying it using Dev.Modes.
I try to run the program from my flash drive and from my memory card but nothing happen

Edit: Yes it works now,I have to format my USB to FAT16
