well it all depends on what game you're playing, really. but in general, try Pete's D3D plugin with the "nice" preset (for graphics), Eternal 1.41 with default settings (for sound), and since it's a laptop (aka crappy CD drive), i'd recommend playing off an ISO, which you should make with Alcohol 120%, CloneCD, or ISOproducer
