So, the issue regarding the anti-piracy measures has been brought to my attention many times before. I was wondering if there exists a genuine clean copy or ROM. One that won't force heightened difficulty or freeze at the last boss and erase every last bit of progress. Thank you for you support.

Ones with [!] or [f]

ClrMAME Pro and similar renaming tools mark good original sets with [!] or [f]
So scanning with those isnt a bad idea.

(there arent really such a thing as "best" version. Only originl ones, and ones edited -be it just translated or with more extensive edit patches)

Just as a side note to the OP, "!" (verified by at least 3 dumpers to be a clean dump) aren't neccessarily guaranteed to work since most, if not all emulators may still be buggy. So just because certain things crash or screw up, that doesn't neccessarily mean that it's the fault of the ROM.

Anyways, here is the legend taken from the latest GoodTool (GoodTools is my preferred ROM renaming set of tools since Cowering has been doing this ever since I got into emulation, though it seems that many are leaning toward the no-intro set of rom renaming tools).
