So you want something fancy along the level of the xbr9? you may want to check out the Sharp and Samsung led backlit tvs, before jumping on the xbr9.

The xbr9 may run at 240hz but is still florescent tube backlit.

I haven't seen the xbr9's but 240hz may not be all that its cracked up to be. They just repeat the same frame multiple times, and it gives that sort of unnatural motion. Some people don't like the 120hz, im sure you will, but 240hz may only offer negligable improvements over the 120hz.

i personally dont like those high 240hz/120hz effects on my tv, unless it would be REAL 120hz, i hate the faux crap.
So maybe i wont be getting a sony, i do like the LED backlit stuff though, alot more than the high hz's.

This is just me personally, but in the entry 120hz model catagory I'm with Chrono like the Sharps this year. Their U77 series we have at work are pretty nice in that price catagory. I actually prefer their picture to the Samsung's entry 120hz series 6 tvs. And they seem to be slightly cheaper then the Series 6.

One problem though is your going to have to go with a 120hz tv if you want better image quality. The 120hz tvs are going to generally have superior audio, color range, refreshrate, scalers, contrast ratio, features, etc... to the 60hz tvs

you can always disable 120hz feature though

Go with either Samsung or Sony. I own 2 Sharps tv's but they aren't the best pictures(60hz). I like Samsung brand alot and would pick that over any other tv but thats my opinion.

Prices are dropping quite steadily. If you hold out till christmas time you should be able to get some fantastic deals on 120hz tvs.

Apparently i've read on some forums but haven't bothered substantiating that at least a couple 120hz tvs can have the 120hz pulldown frame insertion disabled and be able to accept 120hz incoming signals and display true 120hz. All 120hz tvs can have 120hz disabled, but i've heard a couple can actually accept 120hz signals. You might want to investigate.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what's the point of a 120Hz TV that can't accept 120Hz signals? Do they actually look better when they're only displaying 30-60FPS (games) or 24FPS (movies)?

Slightly offtopic: Why haven't they started shooting movies at 30 or 60fps? It seems like it'd make more sense, since the 3:4 pulldown wouldn't be necessary.

Prices are dropping big time. Saw few 120hz for under 1500 or so. 250hz are out too which begs to say wait for the 240hz. Also really consider LED black lighting which give really nice picture. In your price range 120hz are within in it but 240hz is lagging and most models i seen recently arent LED.
Last big deals are always on Slickdeals.net - The best coupons, lowest prices, and hottest deals. or Coupons, Deals, and Cash Back Shopping - FatWallet.com . But most are ymmv to area or get bought so fast only few people enjoy savings.

Wait for December/christmas though, they'll drop even further.
