I used savestates for Final Fantasy Tactics before and it messed up my saved games. I generally don't use them but I broke the rules once to beat that chapter 3 boss and the 2 assassins, and afterwards I saved the game, but when I restarted it wasn't there. Nothing was saved at all. When I don't use savestates everything works fine tho. My friend also experienced similar problems (in epsxe v1.2). Except he was set back a whole 2 chapters because he's been state saving from day one! I dunno, has anyone else experienced problems like this?
