I tried to sign up multiple times, using gmail and hotmail accounts, but they were all banned. I was rather pissed, to say the least, as this was a nice forum.
Now, instead of saying that the email address was banned (when you try to register), why can't you tweak it so that it says "Must Use ISP's email address"?

or even just list the e-mail hosts that are banned such as gmail, hotmail, etc. when signing up for the forums where the e-mail goes. It wouldn't be hard to edit the template and only would take a few minutes if even that.

Telling people which hosts are blocked would rather defeat the object of the blanket bans, neh?

Shinichi Kudo : you can thank the spammers for that.....all they had to do was to create a new free e-mail account, and use a proxy, and they could register as many times as they wanted

We do have a huge email ban list...all people should have a ISP email if they have a private connection. As for notification when they sign up, I guess there could be a template you can edit to show that text instead....I'll look into that

I agree on the one telling them to use ISP emails. Anyway, you may request an admin to get your email changed after you are done registering.

I agree that it's annoying that the pettiness of a few end up spoiling things for the many, but unfortunaterly that's life for ya. If it's only going to be abused, I'm afraid it gets removed.

yeah..I just remembered to add it to the list a few days ago. For all people who signed up with gmail before the ban, you're fine (though there was a option I could set for all gmail users to be forced to type in another e-mail address, but I'm so nice after all :evil: )

It was already banned long before that. Check the wolfmaster thread in the admin forum...around July 30th, 2004.

I just checked my Gmail and I still have the email from emuforums to confirm the address change which is dated the 27th of June, 2004.

But seeing things have changed, I guess it's not possible anymore to change my emailaddress to another gmail account just in case I want to drop this one for a new one?

It was already banned long before that. Check the wolfmaster thread in the admin forum...around July 30th, 2004.

I did a search in the list before I added in gmail....I saw nothing in there. Gmail invites weren't as easy to come by in those days then it is now....maybe the priority wasn't too high?
