i used to like them back in the day like the first ninja turtles movie

(cowabunga) Well now adays i just can't stand the movies being turned out with some exceptions like butterfly effect and constantine which intrigues me since seeing that special of it on mtv

.Now i am mostly just looking to see asian flicks even when we go to blockbuster if they have no asian flicks i want to see i get very disappointed in the store which happens alot these days

.The last movie we bothered to see which i think was worth seeing was spiderman 2 but i am turned way off by crap like son of mask which is gonna be coming out,would you rather see a good foreign flick over an american movie or would you choose both?

It seems like people should judge movies based each film's individual merit, rather than what country they were produced in. If you say that you only like Asian films, then you're no different than a snobby coffee-house philosopher who only likes French films.

The asian film industry is a business, just like the American film industry. I could ask why all the Asian films released in the US are either cookie-cutter horror films, martial arts films, or anime.

There have been lots of great US films in recent years: Pirates of the Caribbean, Moulin Rouge, LOTR, Shakespeare in Love, and Seven are just a few highlights of the last decade or so.

...and don't get me started on the Butterfly Effect. What a piece of crap. But that's only my opinion...

I see no reason to write off the American film industry either. Sure, it churns out a lot of crap, but there's enough good stuff to get me out to a movie at least once a year. Actually, my main problem is that there are so many good movies being released all around the world, but so few of the have a chance to reach the mainstream American audience. It's too bad, since right now America could really stand to broaden it's horizons.

Oh, and I though Constantine looked pretty intersting too. Definately something I'll go out to see if I get the chance.

It's always like that, when someone or emmm.... some company (like hollywood or... microsoft

) release many its product most we hear os see is their bugs, crap, because it's more interesting stuff to review for magazines, or othere way of informing people, than giving only (boring) good reviews

I'm with Aerith on this. Movies must be judged on their individual merits, not their nationality. Hollywood really makes a lot of crap, but you can see a good movie once in a while.

Saying that "American movies are souless crap" is akin to saying "all Indian movies are West Side Story clones" or "Half of Hong Kong movie's budgets are spent on fake blood." Whilst it is true that 90% of Hollywood releases are either tripe or aimed-straight-at-Oscars-over-anything-else *cough*KevinSpacy*cough* there are a few diamonds in the rough. The same with Bollywood really: India makes some good horror films imo.

Just for the record, my favourite film is Blade Runner: Director's Cut. An American film.

my problem with most movies coming out in the USA, with very few exceptions, is that they are all moving towards the rap/gangsta mentality. Movies like Man on Fire amung several others seem to glorify senseless killing and are hardly fun to watch. There have been some high profile movies like LOTR and spiderman which are excellent but i feel that they are coming fewer and farther between.

Your view on what is entertainment probably differs from everyone elses. A movie doesn't need a story to be enjoyable, sure it helps, but its not completely necessary for entertainment. A good movie either needs to be Good Action to keep me entertained or an Excellent Story to keep me interested, i prefer the latter, but an action film is a good way to waste some time, and i personally enjoyed man on fire, despite the violence being pointless. I personally don't enjoy that many foreign films, and don't expect anything great out of movies, and i don't need to, just a good way to pass the time. If you don't have any good expectations you can never be disappointed.

Like one of my favorites of all movies is Face/Off, a movie with LOTS of action and no real plot, but i still find it superbly entertaining because of the Action Sequences. And while movies like the Manchurian Candidate have hardly any action at all, the plot kept me interested until the very end of the movie. Just depends on the situation, not on all american movies in general.

I began reading this think "Not all american movies are bad" but after thinkingabout what my favourite is I realized that I barely even *liked* any of the films at all, I mean I would just watch them think "That was okay" and continue my life. Even good films like LoTR I was put off of because I just didn't get into it (and also it was tainted by the fact that EA were guaranteed to ruin it with a rubbish tie-in) or the matrix I though the first one was OK but by the time the second one came I kept seeing people dressed as Neo (trust me it doesn't look cool in real life, don't argue, just trust me) I think that is one of the reasons I dislike US films its because other people like them, like when the make super heros like spiderman cool I just can't watch those movies becaue I would rather remember liking spiderman as being a geeky thing it makes it more fun. and it explains why so many people like "cult" TV shows/movies like Jack Frost or my favourite TV show Lexx

Asian films on the other hand liked The Grudge (US version sucked) or a great(actually it was rubbish, but I loved it) film called 2002 were awsome and had me hooked the whole way through.

I for one am sick of all the stupid superhero movies. Movies released recently that I enjoyed were Dawn Of The Dead, Secret Window, Pirates Of The Carribean, and Shaun Of The Dead(Which wasn't American-made, if I remember correctly). I rather liked a TV movie that was on a day or two ago called "SlipStream." It was about a guy(Sean Astin plays him) with a device that can rewind time, but only up to ten minutes because of power limitations. It's on again Thursday night at 9:00 P.M EST on the Sci-Fi channel, if anyone wants to watch it.

Shaun of the Dead was made in the UK. and i don't mind a few superhero movies. I don't mind spider-man or X-men movies. The rest that i saw weren't really that entertaining to me, and i'm really pissed they are making a new superman/batman movie. Both of them are gonna be stupid.

Spider-Man wasn't that bad.

BTW, most of my favorite movies of all time are american movies. Blader Runner and 2001: A Space Odyssey are the top two. The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Accross the 8th Dimension is also one of my favorites.

Stanley Kubrick rocked as a movie director, as did George Romero (the trilogy Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead is his brainchild).

And I don't know if I've told you guys before, but I hate Steven Spielberg :evil:

I like the evil dead series just can't stopwwatching ash be beat by his own hand

,also i just saw warriors of heaven and earth,this movie rocked especially loved watching the making of it,also saw return of the master swordsman.Watched saw and couldn't believe they had me fooled into thinking who the weirdo really was,entertaining finding out who the real bad guy was in the end.

Good ol' Evil dead, so cheesy but so awesome. Easily one of my favorite series of all time, have all 3 on DVD.

I really prefer alot of "Paranoid Thriller" movies. They are slow and progressively get more tense as the movie goes on and eventually coming to maybe one action or suspenseful scene that finishes everything and leave ag reat feeling of closure. My 2 favorites as of now are "The Manchurian Candidate" and "Arlington Road". Both excellent movies i think.

And Spider-man wasn't supposed to be anything BUT special effects. Not like they can swing Toby McGuire 300 feet in the air in the middle of New York. And They already had the script written out for them and everyone knew it, they didn't go to see it for the enticing story, but for the fun action sequences, as i said before.

Maybe they will finally make a decent comic book adaption
