I was wondering if anyone here has played the retail version of Guild Wars(not a beta). I was thinking of picking it up. The lack of monthly fee and the fact that everyone is on the same server has me interested. :)

i've been playing the retail since it came out. GW isn't so much an MMORPG as you might think and its also not entirely dungeon-crawlerish. most exp is obtained by completing quests, as opposed to fighting the same monsters over and over. the extent of the MMORPG elements is the built in economy with crafting items and such.

items are more of an MMORPG feel where you don't just get them off a monster, but are required to craft it. stores are limited, as far as buying armors and weapons, so you really can't avoid crafting. and they give a fair share of them when finishing a quest.

what happens after ALL the quests are completed, i'll have to wait and see, but i hope there's something to keep it interesting, and i don't have to resort to fighting monsters, since in general, they're not too generous with exp from kills.

Well, I'm sure they are going to keep adding new quests. You really have to try hard to complete all the main quests and side quests in an online rpg because there are usually a lot.

Are the quests fun to complete or kinda annoying?

I think after you are finished with quests there is only PvP left, which is core of the game. Hence Guild Wars.
Also I'm not sure they will add more quests except for scheduled expansions which will come out every 6 months.

I'm sure they will add a few new quests before the expasions come out. It says on thier website that they will be regularly adding new content (and they don't mean with the expansions).

well, for sure if you're not a PvPer it probably wouldn't last too long. being that the level limit is currently 20, it doesn't give you much leveling to do. once i finish the PvM aspect of it, i'll move onto PvP and see how that goes. by nature, i'm not much of a PvPer...

damn you DarkAurora, because of you I got the game and now I'm broke for the rest of the month :p , but geez this game is pretty good, I still didn't get to see any PvP as I started yesterday but the combat is fun :) , the game is fast, and I'm a monk/mesmer, how good is that? haha.

oh and I forgot to mention this was one of the fastest and easiest games to install in quite some time. I bought a key on the ncsoft store, downloaded a 70kb client, waited a few minutes for it to download some stuff and I was in!

I just got this a few days ago, so far the european servers are flooded with non-english chat as usual. =/ Not so bad here since you will probably only chat PvE and PvP with a guild when you find one. Also from what I've heard, the game is only just starting when you hit 20. It's probably true, they're clearly making the focus of the game PvP and the PvE is just so you can get some extras that the people who go straight to PvP don't. No idea how I'll get a guild though since I don't know anyone in game. NGEmu guild anyone? :p

I'm lvl 8, spent all day playing, LOTS of quests, and when I saw the map, I didn't even touched 10% of the game, I bet that when you reach lvl20 there's a tons of things left to do. oh and the cutscenes and the story quests are very fun :) .

oh, and choosing a set of skills can drive a man crazy :O

If I wasn't so addicted to World of Warcrack then I would probably pick this one up.

I'd mostly play it on my PC if I did get it, but do you know off hand if its a hybrid cd? Seeing as how they are all ex-blizzard employee's I figure maybe they still have some lolalty to mac. I could use another game for my ibook.
