Another n00b with an FF7 problem :P

I am playing Final Fantasy 7 using the CDs and I have 3 problems:

1. FMV sequences(cutscene videos) play very slowly, the emulator even froze once.
2. I can't see the battle swirl when encountering random battles, it just freezes for 2 seconds(just the video,
but the sound is normal) and then the battle screen appears.
3. After a long pause of the emulator by pressing Esc., the game runs without sound for about 30 seconds

Below I have included my settings and information that might become useful if anyone wants to help me
solve this problem. If you suggest a change in plugins, please post a link to the plugin.
Thank you for your time(If I didn't include something in settings, it means its 0 or unchecked)

System Specs:

Windows XP Professional Edition
Pentium III 866Mhz, 512Mb RAM
Nvidia Geforce2 16Mb

Emulator and plugins:

ePSXe - version 1.5.2
BIOS - Scph1001
video - Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.75
sound - Eternal SPU Plugin 1.41
Cdrom - ePSXe CDR WNT/W2k core 1.5.2

Plugin settings:

video -
Fullscreen mode (640x480);Color depth-16 Bit;Keep psx ascpect ratio(checked)
Texture quality-don't care;Texture filtering-3;Use FPS limit(checked);
Auto-detect FPS/Frames skipping limit(checked)
Off-Screen drawing-2;Alpha MultiPass(checked)
Special game fixes: Adjust framebuffer acces(only for FF7 battle cursor/battle swirl)

sound -
Enable Sound[Select to enable ADPCM sound](checked);
Enable CDDA Sound [select to enable CDROM sound](checked);
Audio device-Direct Sound;Buffer size-64;Audio method-Thread;Wait for XA buffer is free(checked)
Special game fix: Update before accessing register[FF8,FF9 and some SQUARE games](checked)

cdrom -
Select Cdrom letter - FirstCdrom (my only CD-ROM drive is D, but I left it as its default setting, FirstCdrom,
because I got a mysterious error last time I set it to D, although I am not getting it anymore. Now I have tried
both settings and it didn't seem to have any effect on the gameplay at all)

Please help! :dance:

ok firstly, when using Pete's plugins you can use the Copy settings to clipboard that makes it a lot easier..

anyway, try using Eternal Lite for sound that will save you a bit of CPU, go to www.lordkane.co.uk and grab his OGL config, and use Peops for CD or just make an ISO that will improve performance across the board.
Not many people know this but SSSPSX is a better emu for FFVII (there are no slowdowns during exp screen after battles). It is a PSEMU PRO plugin based emu, very simillar to ePSXe so the configuration is almost the same. Download from:
http://www.ngemu.com/files/psx/sssxpsx/SSSPSX-0.0.15.ZIP
oO i dont get slowdowns after exp screen after battles and i use ePSXe 1.5.2...

and anyway, 0.0.15 is outdated, there's 0.0.16 ;)

it also requires a bit of Japanese knowledge, if you dont have that you wont get very far ;)
Also, given his computer specs running Windows XP, I expect minimal settings to be set for ePSXe and even SSSPSX as well.

Well can't blame him for linking to 0.0.15 if the news of 0.0.16 hasn't been posted on the main page yet. The mainpage still shows 0.0.15 as the latest version, and I also saw that SSSPSX isn't mentioned in the emulators list on the left here: http://www.ngemu.com/psx/index.php

However I did submit the 0.0.16 release about an hour ago, I came across that site by coincidence :p
thanks alot for the help, but I am having problems with the Peops CD plugin. When I use it, the game doesn't start after i press Run CDROM. The emulator goes to full screen but nothing happens.
what are your settings for it?

Yup at the time i was writing this the 0.0.15 ver was in the news section of the page. And You're right, You don't get those slowdowns using ePSXw 1.5.2... I was using ver 1.6.0 and that's why I got those slowdowns. Anyways, SSSPSX is still a lot faster for me and the guy is getting problems with speed so maybe he could try it. Oh and the knowlage of japanese isn't required as long as You (my case :D ) learn the position of specific options.
I think the problem with Peops was that i never checked the settings. By default the settings were mostly "NONE". Now I have a different problem. Every read mode doesn't work for me. I have tried them all, but everytime I press "RUN CDROM", ePSXe shuts down with an error message asking if I wanna report the stupid bug to microsoft.
btw, my CD Drive is D . Can anyone give me the proper settings for Peops?
P.S.- When I click on "Try auto-detection", I get "Please note: you have to insert a PSX CD for the read mode detection" while having the FF7 on my CD drive and then I get the error message shutting down ePSXe.
What CD drive do You have? I had the simmilar problem with Peops with my old LG 50x CRD-8521B drive... As far as I can remember I had to enable the "enable subchannel cathing" option but in the ePSXe CDR core plugin. If this doesn't help just make an ISO of the game.
