Well kinda hard to explain but could you guys recommend me a few RPGs where I don't have to power level. I'm into most RPGs for the story and character development only. I'm not into battle systems and I can take most of them (as long as they are fast)
I'm not escaping battles but I do not look out for them either.

So it goes like this... I play first 20% of the game and than get stuck in some place because I'm too weak. I think: "Ok I'll level some tommorrow..." but it never happens :(

And I get to miss so many good games :/

So RPGs on PS2, GC, PSX, SNES and PC are a go. I can borrow my friends GBA if game is very good too but I rather not :)

I've played most of the FFs (SNES, PSX, PS2), Chrono Trigger, Suikodens so I'm a newb when it comes to RPGs. I tried many but never finished them as I had to "grind" for levels. I remember waiting for ToP translation for SNES for like years to be done and after it was I never could get myself to play the damn thing :( Star Ocean as well...

I just hope there are such games :)

If you're looking for an RPG where you'll never have to do a lot of leveling, Paper Mario is the way to go. That game is designed so fighting an exessive amount of battles is not only uneeded, but it's also pointless. That's due to the fact that unless you continue to fight stronger enemies as you level up, you won't even any experience for battling at all after a while. The only problem is that the game is a bit light in the story department, but I think the action/adventure elements of the game more than make up for that.

The only other game I can think of thats like that is Chrono Cross, but you don't even want to get me started on what's wrong with that game. I dunno, some people seem to like it, so I'll let you decide for yourself. At the very least however, I'll tell you right now that it doesn't do the first Chrono game justice.

First Chrono (SNES) is by far the best RPG I ever played. I haven't played many but damn how well crafted that game was... One of the rare RPGs I played through at least 2-ce I think I even played it through a 3rd time as well. Second is FF7 which was my first contact with RPGs.

How strange :) I have a friend that loves leveling and getting every last item and such, but doesn't like reading very much and I'm complete oposite :) Wish we could play together somehow :p

Ok here is what I do when I want to replay the story of a RPG without having to level up and else.
Just use cheats :p . You'll be having the maximum states for all characters at the start. And now you can play the story without even caring to level up.

Many cheats can be found at Zophar's domain, unless you want PSX games then I'd recommend PCE cheating plugin ;)

I used the cheat "tactic" when I played FF8. I was utterly bored by the game, and the gameplay sucked so much that I decided to skip it altogether by the time I was in CD2.

Anyway, Cloud's suggestion is a good one if you want to just enjoy the story, but I wouldn't use it in the first play (as Cloud said, it should be used if you're just replaying the game). But you can try it and see if it suits your tastes.

As for a good PC RPG where no leveling is required, you should try Anachronox. When I say no leveling, I mean it. If your level is too low, the game automatically levels you up when you go to a more advanced part. I finished this game last week, and liked it a lot.

The game even has different difficult levels, and if you don't like to spend too much time in battles, you can play in easy mode and have little trouble, if any at all. I highly recommend you trying it out (and if you do try, make sure to download the 1.02 patch, build 45 - it fixes a lot of annoying bugs).

Man Anachronox have some serious fans around, still to this day :) I'll look it up.

Yeah I was thinking about cheating, feels bad :/ If I only had a litle bit more time, or if I didn't need sleep :p Well i just have to find games that have interessting battle systems than :p

The graphics in anachronox weren't particularly bad.
/me wonders if the updated renderers for Q2 will work in anachronox...

Tales Of Symphonia on GC. You can level up if you want, but what means more are tactics and skillful swordplay. Even if you are on high level, you'll get your ass kicked with brainless attacking and throwing specials. With good tactics and skillfull control, even low level player can beat much harder bosses. There is also difficulty slider if you want more challence, and believe me, its REALLY hard. Especially when you beat game and Mania difficulty is unlocked.

Thanks for the link Boltzmann, I am so going to try out that game :D
It looks really great to me and I recently bought another game based on the Q2 engine which ran really great on my old pc so this one might be a great next game for me.

@ Cloud: I once saw Septerra Core somewhere and I was thinking about buying it, but in the end I didn't. :(

I agree with Kane. Anacrhonox’s graphics aren’t that bad. And Cid, I believe that even a low end PC can run it well (probably even in high-res mode). It’s really worth a try.

I’ve hard about Septerra Core before, but never saw anything about this game (or know anyone who played it). I might give it a try, though; I’ll get it ASAP.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it will run just fine. I recently bought Kingpin: Life of Crime, which is also Q2 engine based, and I can run it with everything maxed out (except shadows which I have to turn off in every game to keep a decent framerate) and it still has a very nice framerate. And I think Anachronox won't be any different judging from the requirements and screenshots.

I'm going to download the demo tonight :)

Oh no. Not that horrible game :hdbash: . But if you willing to play that badly, I suggest you find walkthrough guide to keep you in sanity.
Is this game THAT bad? I’m asking because I’m planning to start playing it soon (got it this weekend), and I want to know if it’s bug-ridden or something like that…

I got it from of those "Free Game Included" magazines a couple years ago. I remember that I tried playing it, but gave up because both the story and the battle system were slow, bland, and just plain boring.

First look, I think this game might be fun but after playing 3 days...you would definetly give up, just like Badaro said. And yeah, this game is REALLY REALLY BAD AS HELL.
