Analog Stick Buttons - Nessecary?

I'm just going over my pad config through ePSXe here and I've just sat wondering if there were actually any games for the PS that used the so called L3 and R3 buttons that you got from pressing down the analog sticks.

I know they're now pretty much essential in PS2 games, but I can't for the life of me think about any possible PS1 titles that actually used the buttons (if the actual button feature was even within the technology at the time).

Can anyone help me out on this because if it turns out that L3 and R3 weren't actually part of the PS1 controllers I'd like to bind Start and Select to my analog stick buttons.

L3 and R3 were part of the original PS1 controllers, havent you ever used a Dual Shock? :p

anyway, the only game that comes to mind right away is Ape Escape. i know there are a few more.

but if you cant think of any games, what is the harm of binding them to the stick buttons? not like you'll ever use em :p
not many used them, as most games dont need so many buttons...i remember when Ape Escape came out it was widely heralded as the first game to make "real" use of the dual shock (i.e. all the buttons and both sticks). i remember in the demo L3 and R3 doing something, i just cant remember what it was at the moment
heh i actually have the Ape Escape demo disc, they mailed it to me oO
