So this is World of Warcraft on six Dell 30" displays, each with an individual resolution of 2560 x 1600. There's a single GPU driving all of these panels. The actual resolution being rendered at is 7680 x 3200; WoW got over 80 fps with the details maxed.

You can head to anandtech to read the full article.

They haven't released the specs yet but this is something to look forward to.

i just saw this too, i was pretty amazed :)
So... now what? You can play WoW at a resolution never heard of before? What's the point...? If it does Crysis at 2560 x 1600 on a single GPU and survive High settings with AA then I can understand but... WoW? Really?

Anyway, that aside, heard from AMD that it's about 20 to 40% faster than the current generation. I guess 80fps with WoW at close to billions of pixels isn't impossible, but still... pretty pointless to me. I'm pretty certain that with a GTX 295, you can do WoW at over 100fps at 2560 x 1600.

Those are the dx11 card specs

The 5870 is shown to be better than the gtx 295 when playing crysis, we'll have to wait to see more. The 5870 will also release at about 100 dollars less than the 295 is currently, and since it is a single card the performance will be a lot more stable and a lot more consitant with games. I think that it is releasing at 400 instead of 300 because there isn't much competition so any lower is not needed.
Well ATi will have a monopoly when it comes to the new technology and they'll definitely force nVidia to go down in price. They will probably be a bit pricier just to get rid of the old HD4k series stock first, expect some strong pricecuts as soon as nVidia enters the field. I think that unless nVidia will have some sort of monster that they can produce cheaply, ATi will have another strong round.

And for those who complain about WOW running like that:

AMD says that their next-gen GPU will 250% faster than the one introduced in Jul of 2008. That is going by raw TFLOPS

So it seems the 24-40% increase in performance rumour is completely faked or it is referring to being faster than the 4870x2/295

DAAAAMN!

Mutli-display gaming is only good for the "ooooohhhh" factor. You soon realize the having to play your game through the grid of monitor frames sucks balls.

You can get bezel-less multi displays

I somehow find the idea of multiple displays for gaming less than enticing. I'd prefer one big monitor to several smaller ones. The bezel-less one looks interesting but I'd imagine it would cost an arm and a leg (again, one big monitor is way more appealing). What I'm most interested in with DX11 cards is the performance compared to previous generations and the expected games (anyone know some good titles in the wings?)

Good luck getting steady 80 fps in raids, let alone Dalaran on a high population server on a single gpu... Unless you got a monster of a cpu to pair it with. I mean, they're alone in Mulgore for Christ's sake

Edit:
I just remembered something.

Wasn't there a multi-display thingie in the movie Swordfish? I think it was. And it was awesome iirc.

Dirt 2 will be DX11, and from the reviews and previews it seems to be a rather good game. One I would very much like to try with a new DX11 card.

Cool to hear, rumour is that ATI will be demoing benchmarks tomorrow night.

The 5870 has nearly 3TFlops of processing power.

1600 Shaders @ 850 Mhz.
That's double the 4890 at the same clocks. This thing should hopefully fly!

Could this be my crysis card?

I've had the money waiting in a box for like 2 years on principal
I loled

WoW at 80fps? HAHAHAHA

the game is server limited to 30fps anyway, AND IS ENTIRELY CPU DEPENDANT.

divide by 5 rule........... the 5870 only has 320 shaders at 850

Yes, we all know they count the 5 way shaders individually.
No need to be pedantic about it. :p
:p it also means nvidia does more with less :p
...and requires you to sell a kidney to pay for their product.

But, seriously just wait for the reviews to come out. I'm not making any move toward either camp until both parties have dealt their cards.
Any idea how much the card will cost? Been a while since I've upgraded my graphic card. Even longer since I've used an ATI.

Well, the current rumours are that nvidia are going to demo their new stuff around the 5 series launch to steal the show.

who knows?

I remember like last may or so people thought the gtx 280 was the gt300 core
should be polished by now.

New card season makes me feel like a kid anticipating christmas

$299 for the 5850, $399 for the 5870

but I don't know if that's trade price or retail

Not if you compare die sizes it doesn't
