I guess what you are talking about is how much system memory your bois will allow the AGP card to consume for textures...

There is a way to change this... If you enter your pc's BIOS, under one of the sub-menus there should be a line that says something like "AGP Memory".. (i just dont feel like rebooting my PC to check). Anyways, you can set that to a higher number... Mine is set at 128, since i have 256mb of ram...

IF you dont know how to enter your PC's BIOS, you probably should not try to mess with this, because you can accidently cause all sorts of problems...
Yeah, but doesn't that make that memory inaccessible to other apps? (You probably wouldn't see any problem using 128/256 megs)...
What kind of card do you have? Just wondering.... But to up how much memory for textures goto the following... -
Display Properties>Advanced> Then look around in that area, there might be (and I bet is) a tab for what Video Card you have. Click that then there should be an "additional properties" Tab. It should be in there if you have it. There is 2 types, DirectX and OpenGL. (I don't know about Voodoo cards, but this works on me and my friends computers)
Well your right, you sometimes do run out of memory (even on my 128 I run out sometimes) but there is one simple option. Get a memory cleaner! You can find a few free memory cleaners at
- www.zdnet.com - Just search for "memory cleaner" - Just run it every once in a while and/or after you exit a program that uses a lot of memory. It just clears your memory, and no don't worry they don't clear what memory is currently in use.
Setting the BOIS to all up to xxx mb of memory does not make the memory non acessable, it just lets the card consume up to that amout of memory if it is avalible...

I personally would not recomend using a memory cleaner, unless you run some programs with memory leaks (due to bad programming). Sometimes you clean out stuff you would like to say in memory, and if the OS needs that information again, it has to fetch it off the HD and then reload it into memory.. And your back at square one...

So then would it be a bad idea to set that bios setting to the full amount of ram you have. I mean I have 128mb and I would set it to 128mb. Is this a bad idea?
probably wouldn't be too bad, as he said "if it's avalible"
