very interesting to see what people will be able to pull off with this new feature. The N64 retexturing projects like Djipi's cell-shaded Ocarina of Time were top-notch.

Maybe Djipi will be tempted to make a realistic looking Wind Waker retexture project XD

Wow, that feature is amazing. I never thought it would be possible that we will ever see some GameCube or Wii re-texturing projects and now you guys made it possible. Can't wait to see the first projects apearing on the surface.

I love where this is going. Maybe I'll go and buy myself one of these LG drives so I can rip my games and test GC emulation with textures replacement.

Just one question. Does this use only GPU, or CPU and GPU for the textures rendering?

It uses the CPU for converting the files to something the GPU can read, but it caches textures so there should be minimal lag when loading them.

On another note: r3190 should have the final format for loading textures implemented, but there are a handful of special cases which don't like to play nice which I plan to look at later.

If you try to dump textures, watch out for any of these three things:
* Using safe texture cache
* Using Copy EFB to RAM
* FMVs
Those can dump hundreds, possibly thousands of textures in a matter of minutes, and keep dumping them.

I just don't want a bunch of people's hard work to suddenly get ruined if we find a bug.
I don't think that will happen but I appreciate the concern. Rest assured, I'm warned so should anything happen that makes my present textures useless in the future revisions, I'll have me to blame.

don't worry, once the texture is done, if there's really a problem, we'll just have to change the name :p
Yeah, last night I was thinking tha same thing. If there's any eventual bug maybe just a simple renaming could do the trick.
So, Naruto GNT!4 is tiptop in the dump/load texture department but CoNR2 and EX3 crash the emulator. Still, some textures are dumped. I haven't tried Rev 3190 yet.
But like I and many people said "THIS IS AWESOME!" :D I added more contrast to the GNT!4 main screen, some characters's eyes, clothing(got rid of some in the process. I couldn't resist. :innocent:). Very interesting!
Now, I was wondering if it's possible to modify some solid objects in the characters? For example, Tayuya's horns, a shuriken holster, a headband and stuff like that. :eyemove:

P.S. Just like the Free Look feature, I'd like to see this one in PCSX2 too.

It's really easy, first you'll have to check "dump textures", preferably before loading the game.
Then you should disable "EFB Copy" otherwise, each EFB frame will be saved as a new texture which is of no use.
Then every loaded textures will be saved under User/Dump/Textures.

Once the textures are dumped, you can modify them and put then under User/Load/Textures. Then they'll be automatically loaded in place of the real ones if "Load Hires textures" is checked :)

It's really as simple as that!

HumHum : :p

Yup, that's intersting Djipi. What are your plans for WW?

I do hope the texture loader would be able to use PNGs as an alternative to Targa, it saved much more space for large N64 textures, and I like being able to see transparency in effect instead of being in a separate channel.

Photoshop and Gimp should open them fine. I made a modification to Snakes suit (twin snakes) by giving it a red hue though it seemed to corrupt the standard texture with a mixture of shirtless, tuxedo and sneaking snake 0____o

nobody says nothing about the space in the hard drive for the dump textures... for my smash brawl the space in the texture file its more less 400 MB..., maybe this option its only for the people with a really big hard drive space...

Yes, since the textures are dumped uncompressed, they do take up a lot of space. Also, be careful of FMV in games, because the texture dumper isn't very smart and dumps every individual frame to your hard drive, and that can add up very fast.
