if pcsx2 is designed for dual cores processors and it takes advantage of dual core processors. then how would quad cores benefit pcsx2 when pcsx2 isnt optimized to use all four cores. If quad cores makes a different then plz explain.

However in some post people would hey why isnt pcsx2 runnin at a faster speed and the user would say pcsx2 isnt optimized for pcsx2. you would be better getting an dual core. to make a long story short posts like this.

Very simple explanation: Quad core has 4 cores, PCSX2 is designed to only use 2 cores the only benefit of having a quad core with PCSX2 is that you can assign fraps for example to another unused core and play at a good speed (because the original 2 cores are only used for PCSX2).

That was finally fixed in the Catalyst 9.6 drivers. 9.7 hasn't broken this fix either. (Thank God)
ahh thank you everybody L3 alocation in bios unlocks all 4 cores and it makes a hell of difference. man im so happy. My processor just went from a dual core to a quad thanks for the info know im flyin.

had no idea that my 7750 cpu had a four core construction set. thanks to cpu z that is.

tell me how did you configure fraps for pcsx2 to use other cores

lol quad-core owners who are neck-deep into emulation should just install another OS on their PC and put the old 9.5 drivers in there. I mean, wasn't that behavior actually beneficial for you?

You can't control what cores that "leak" would had used so no and for me is beneficial fixed :p.

(with fraps opened)
Task manager go to Process find fraps there, right click on it then select "set affinity" and you can select witch cores that app should used. There's also a batch for it but i forgot and i'm to lazy to search for it.

Well of course dual-core CPUs are much better off with that problem fixed, but for quad-cores that behavior might have proven a windfall as it would, to some extent, allow PCSX2 to better utilize the other 2 cores.

Purposely having that bug, just because you have the cores to cover for it, will not add speed. There's almost a no hit without the bug (as it should be), so the speed comparison is the same. So, no, it would not be beneficiary for quad core CPU owners with ATi cards to purposely use the drivers with that behavior.
