a question about progress

i can see that the team is working hard on the graphics issue.
but it seems that the speed is not improving. why does the team works on graphics only? (or not only, i am just asking).
if you want to please the crowd :)D) why not work on that too? or work on it more? (i am not attacking anyone so don't take it perssonaly).

Because you first do accurate emulation, then optimise speed.
Who are the guys that work on the emulator, are they experts?
No, they are all noobs that recently got a computer:p ... OF COURSE THEY`RE EXPERTS otherwise they couldn`t get so far :p (and I thought it`s obvious).
You have to know that authors are very experienced people. Don't forget that they already created PCSX : One of the best PSX emulators. Just try it and you'll be convinced

This guy obviusly has no idea how hard it is to create an emulator.
Emulating a system such as playstaiton 2 has got to be a pain in the arse.
Specially how the system works, it has 32 megabytes of ram and a 4 megabyte graphics card, now think about how much data must be swapped in and out of memory for a game like for say grand theft auto, or final fantasy 11 mmorpg , the ps/2 has a massive memory bandwidth(direct RDRAM connected to the cpu) to compensate for the low system ram. Now i'm sure the game programmers who optimized it made it so it could utilze high memory bandwidth and data swapping.

Now lets look at PC's i know that i have ~12gb/sec thuput of memory bandwith on my opteron workstation with the onboard memory controller of AMD64 based procerssor. Now the average pc, for say an athlon xp or athlon MP, has about 3gb/sec two way memory transfer rate, and 6gb/sec 1 way.
In order to make the ps/2 emulator work on average game pc hardware is going to be prety tricky alltho i could see caching alot of parts of the game into ram on the pc transparently without the game knowing it so it can be faster accessed , i havent really looked at pcsx code so i dont know how it works but im just posting this to show part of the delema the programmers are facing and hopfully it makes people think about it.

Also , incredible work guys .8 will be a very fun release to play around with. Its better to wait and let things get worked out than to be impatient and then be disapointed.

Thanks for refresh everyone's memory. PCSX is a great reference, one of the best emulators if not the best. So it is obvious that the PCX2 team deserves respect. Period.
And i do not know this? I stated it for somone further up the forum.
ei guys... judging from the screen shots of the game from the next version of the emulator...are any of the games playable???

read the rules please.

Are games playable? : No
Do Games run? : Some do, others just load a few screens up to the menu, others dont even boot.

That rule is going to apply at least up to PCSX2 1.0
i can see that the team is working hard on the graphics issue.

speed has improved tremedously already, why ask such ridiculous questions, pal, do a favour and be patient, this a'nt the first emulator that has taken time to complete. Look at PS Emulator. Became no.1 after a lot of dedications and hardwork from the EXPERTS. The team works on graphic first because thats what need to be done first. As said by boistman [Because you first do accurate emulation, then optimise speed.]
no one else is asking because they already appreciate the speed in which the Emulator is progressing. Everyone wants to see it all done.
It looks like your the only mouse out there whos not pleased (sorry for mouse, its just a figurative way of speech). the team had worked already hard which everyone should be grateful for and should be congratulating the team that PCSX2 has made it this far because of their dedication. (i'm not attacking you too so dont take it personally)

PCSX2 :guitar: Rocks
Continue The Awesome Work

Yo! u don't know what ur saying!! The Speed has become tremendously fast, you aint gonna know unless you check it yourself, i tried it myself. n i got a definietely pleasing response

I tried PCSX2.07 on with a 128MB DDR RAM, Pentium III, Graphics Card with 32MB and It was sooooooooooo slow!!! But when I tried the PCSX2.08 with the same specs and same plugins, they worked a lot faster and I also tried out the new plugins which further enhanced the speed. So you have no right to say that its slow ok....

n nobodys mad at you (hopefully :) )
To quote what someone said (I can`t remember if it was Bositman or CKemu, it was long ago):"What would you like: a black screen with 200 fps, or a full screen with 2 fps?" (sorry if it`s a little incorect, I can`t remember every word since it was long ago:hdbash: ).
The team can only work on 1 thing at a time, and i guess everyone would like compatibility (unless you would like a 200 fps black screen, because they only improved speed).
Anyway, I can already hear Sony cursing them, so they`re not that far from completing it:D .
Buzz Off

Besides that Linuz and the other guys hardly gets time to make the emulator. I read that Linuz usually does the coding in the weekends for a few hours

To your question about progress, the answer is that , according to linuz that he is "working on compaitability and speed" like Cloud said, they can only one thing at a time and also, linuz says what we would find new in PCSX2 next beta version is improved speed, compaitability and PS game compaitability. The team is working hard and since they work on their free times which happens to be around a couple of hours per week...............

Anyway, you'll see better speeds, better compaitability and other functions available once the EMU is finished or rather in the next release

The two years legacy has brought the team this far, they can work to better fields if you guys dont poke your noses too deep about compaitability and speeds
