Today I came across 3 spam threads by 3 diffrent names, this is getting rediculus are they all the same person? and if so maybe this is a prelude of a new kind of spam: Message Board Spam (it's been done on SMS,e-mail,and chatrooms so I wouldn't be suprised)

I'm getting worried about it too, Player-X.

The fact that someone takes all the trouble to register in a forum (a not so quick process) just to advertise is very sad.

I've noticed the large amount of pure advertising threads as of late (including the infamous christian spam threads ["you're going to hell if you don't read this page"]).

This is just adding another burden to the mods/admins job, not to mention that it annoys all users.
I think we should have a mandatory evaluatuion for every new member. Just a little quiz before someone can register. It could help weed out people Spamming and noobs asking where to download games.
Why do you guys think I posted the kill the spammers thread? LOL too bad someone closed it down.
You should have referenced the spam posts....Looks like the admins considered your post SPAM as well ;)
hehe

LOL, oo well, how about making it so each new member have to read all the sticky post ( with information about epsxe rules etc, and answer a quiz about them before they are allowed to start posting? )
People have discussed this option before. The main problem with this approach is that it will turn down many potentially good member, who don't want to bother with the process. And many n00bs actually turn out to be good member afterwards.
Not to mention that there is no way to ensure that they won't cheat or that they will pay any attention to the rules... failing all that there is the little detail that such thing screams "elitism".

So what do you do with those advertising ppl? Do you ban them instantly? When it's about those piramid schemes or illegal stuff I think it would be a good idea so they won't sign up using another name.
This is why on Emufanatics we changed the permissions around so people can't do something like this. But hey, gives the mods something to do.
I have an idea for the Admins to consider.

Why don't you make it that new members can only join after an invite from another user or with Admin's permission. It might discourage some people (your non-allowance of Yahoo email addresses discouraged me for a while...) but if that person is serious in joining, then I don't think they would mind emailing the Admins about it first, agreeing to stringent rules.

I agree, as a side note I will NEVER use any product advertised on spyware or ad banners (unless using it already.) All spammers, or sorts on pyramid schemes with the "teh money comes to me if i tell everyone!!!!!!!11111111111111" should be banned from the internet.

In case you haven't noticed till now, we've banned every single pyramid "schemer" , who only subscribed on this forum to post nothing but scam.

lol....did I just hear someone say something about verifying every single newely registered member??? Not only would that be time consuming, it wouldn't prevent anything....

My suggestion would be to set a limit on all non-emulation sections to require about a 5 to 10 postcount minumum. But yes, things have slowed down, and any lamor to boot is a delicacy :p
Well the 5-10 post thing would probably jus make them want to spam in other threads by either short responses or making dumb thread just to increase postcount. There really isn't any rock solid solution to scammers and spammors ... We can try things, but I don't think it will decrease our problems in the long run.
how about making an aditional "proven non-n00b only" forum?
/me awaits the "elitism" remark....

Guys, it's really very simple, but sad realizing the truth....we cannot stop people from spamming....it is basically impossible. Even if they follow the quizes, tests, etc...the moment they have the opportunity to spam, they will.

All we can do is be as patient as possible, notify the mods about a thread if it's going south, and let them do their work.

Mods, I'm sure it's a major pain in the butt, but I know that you are diligant and fair with your decisions.....so, keep up the good work and let's not let these dumb&sses ruin the work that all the mods and users have built. ;)

Well, I got a brilliant idea write in the sign up that all spammers will be reported to the FBI.
