Unquestionably, Final Fantasy is the most respected and played rpg of its time. I mean sure there was Legend of Dragoon, Star Ocean, Dragon Quest, and Suikoden. But in my opinion those games were great but I could'nt find myself immersed like I was in every FF game I have played. So the question,(might be hard) Which FF game is your favorite? (I know it is hard to decide but answer anyway :)) For me it has to be ff8, but not because of the story but the battle system, they were great, but for the Soundtrack. I think that the guys at square did a perfect job creating the music for every place and scene in this amazingly detailed game for it's time.

Who said that FF is respected? As far as I am concerned FF is overhyped and FFVIII is one of the worse games on the series... music wise it was ok, but the plot and the gameplay was awful. Chrono Cross featured a far better soundtrack and that does not make it a great game either. Star Ocean Till the End of Time is in my opinion a much better RPG... I still have to find a FF game that entertains me as much as Lunar TSS and EB did.
The only Final Fantasys worth mentioning IMO would be 6,7,5and Tactics. I found the rest to be pure [email protected], no offence ( though I'd give FF9 that it was enjoyable through the first 2 cds). I can name many RPGS which top FF anyday :

Xenogears
Chrono Trigger
Breath of Fire II
Lunar
Tales of Phantasia

just to name a few...

Yours,

I'd consider FF10 on the list too.
Although some FFs are great, there are better RPGs. Xenogears for instance. Shining Force, Seiken Densetsu 2/3, Star Ocean, and many more.
FF8 sucked roosters!.

Haha, roosters! isn't censored. roosters!!1

Reich is an editing cock.
skies of arcadia is on my top ten list too
Final fantasy 5 is the best one I played out of the series. Fallout 1 and 2 where the best ever for me.
Don't forget about Final Fantasy 4 :)

Although I have to agree that Final Fantasy games are way above overhyped... in fact they provoked the whole RPG industry to become clichèd and for many people to believe Final Fantasy games are the only way RPG's can be.... why can't they appreciate Tri-Ace's games or Namco's RPG's for example, that way they'd come to America instead of staying in their Japanese niche.... /me starts sobbing
i agree with kaiser, FFVIII was overhiped, the story was prety lame and the characters din't have emotions in any case my fav FF is FFVII
I liked the concept of FFVIII storyline about school of mercaneries. But i guess people have different tastes.

Seems to be alot of FF and rpg threads. Aren't you all tired of them?
Sick to the point where I want to puke would be more accurate...

Indeed.

Saman.. try using the forum search function next time, this sort of thing comes along about 500 times per week, which tends to get quite annoying.

:)
I actually regard FFVIII second to FVII. *finds a place to hide quickly.*

Seriously, I used to loathe it and nitpick about the serious Zeromus-style "out-of-the-woodwork" plot twists and such, but when I played it again recently (well ... December 2003) I loved it. It's more character than plot based, and it's true that only a few of the characters actually have one, but IMO it's awesome. Plus it has an ending that is actually worthy of the time spent playing, unlike games such as FFX.

I own but have yet to play Grandia, Xenogears, Star Ocean: Second Story, Legend of Dragoon, SaGa Frontier 2, Final Fantasy Tactics, Legend of Mana, Koudelka, and Chrono Cross.

Alundra, the Breath of Fires 2-4, Grandia 2, Parasite Eves, Terranigma, Final Fantasies 2-8 and 10 and Chrono Trigger = awesome.

And yeah, you're right about the soundtrack. Final Fantasy 8's OST IMO is the best I've heard yet.
Here we go again

I liked FF3, 5, and 9, but 7 is my favourite.

Dig up older threads to find out why...

Still I find FF7 the only one that gave me the same feelings and emotions while playing as Grandia 2.
And let's not forget about Baldurs Gate 2: The Shadows of Amn. ;)
hehehe

as for me the best from series is VIII than VI and of course, next to them stands Xenogears, those my favorites naturally :)
Haven't i seen this before???

OK

FF7 is the one for me then 9,10 and 8
However only 7 managed to entertain me as much as Dragon Force and the Fallout series not to talk about the Lunar series for the SegaCD of course.

Wierd, i found FFVIII's characters quite emotional, or otherwise deep. It was considered to be soapopera of ff series. I liked that game plotwise and everything, except UTTERLY HORRIBLE GAMEPLAY.

But yeah, final fantasy is WAAAYYY overhyped. Im currently playing Tales Of Symphonies on GC, and gotta say its thousand times better so far (15 hours of gameplay and STILL on first disc oO ) than any FF game. Its anime graphics rock, its realtime fighting system is simply suberp, (no longer pick command and action, but you need skills to win) and plot has been good, if bit clichee.
If your standards for games are low and you are easily entertained... otherwise you will demand more...

You know, being easily entertained is actually blessing, eh? Much like low resistance to alcohol, its cheaper for your pocket.
