9800 fan won't spin on startup!

its probably clogged up...happens to my chipset fan all the time because of my dogs shedding and getting sucked into fans. Try cleaning it out. And i have that exact card (flashed bios to XT) and the stock fan isn't that good at all. i reccomend getting an ATI or Artic Silencer (can't remember what the latest is)

I had to send it back and its been almost 2 months and i still didnt get it back. Im going freaking insane :hdbash:

One of the fans on my Voodoo5 had that problem. All I did was replace the fan and it was all good.

My Asus A8N Chipset fan has the same issues.. not well lubricated.. If theres one thing I dislike about my setup its the chipset fan.. I wanna replace it..

You should Chris. I mean, with a system like you have, it's definately worth it.

The stock fan on my Asus 5200 did it aswell. I put some cooking oil under the little Asus logo where the bearing is, and it's been working fine.

i sorta made that suggestion in the intel vs nvidia thread. but i guess he has his reasons (warantee?)

as for the original problem in this thread, i think one of the best things u can do is get an artic silencer cooler for that card. it'll decrease the temps in your computer as well as massively improve cooling on the card itself. its also very silent. i wud have one if i didnt already mod a cpu cooler onto it >.<

The main reason I havent replaced it yet is I am somewhat concerned about damaging the board taking it off. I am not having an easy time removing it. With needle nose pliars. Finesse is not my strong point and I'm concerned I'll break the board. Honestly I'm not even sure the fan on there is required. It pushes like no air.

Nope, it's not that problem. The fan refused to start from the very first moment I plugged it into my system. Yeah, I know the stock fan sucks, but finances don't really allow for the purchase of a new fan atm..

But the funny thing is, I thought it was a problem with the card, so I brought it back to the shop, hoping to get it replaced. But they plugged it into their system, and it worked perfectly fine. They even shutdown and powered up, and it was still fine. I don't think it's a problem with the power supplied, as I tried booting only with my graphic card and mobo powered, but to no avail
