42" LCD Widescreen TV as Monitor......

39667 Views 1120 Replies 40 Participants Last post by  cooliscool
Well, Cid suggested it so here goes....(not the TV, the thread)

I'm getting a new monitor for my Super Build and I want it to be as BIG as possible because using this Trinitron as my monitor I have goten used to Big Icons...and I like the size of it.....Very easy on the eyes... (at least to me)

I had this TV in mind and was wondering whether any of you users have personal experience with this TV and can shed some light on it....

And Furthurmore is it a strain on your vision - not that I wanna know....

Would I be throwing my moneyt awway here? or is this a solid purchase..

Thanks mate....

I thought you said it was a 19 inch?
My bad, took the measuring tape last week and it's only 15".....
Well then I definitely can't fault you for calling it small and having the wrong impression of PC monitors. We also have a 15 inch here at home for the family PC and it's tiny, every single time after I am forced to use it my standard (as opposed to widescreen) 19 inch looks much bigger than it is, it looks and feels huge.
I only have 20" monitor and it seems really huge for me. Why need 42"? It would be very big and you won't see anything while browsing your PC IMHO
Here’s somebody with what appears to be a general knowledge of this...

Gerald writes, "LCD HDTV, and monitor: What inputs would I need make sure the unit would have to run the input from the cable box digital tuner, and an input from the cable internet? Or maybe the correct question or setup would be to put a computer near the monitor and have a Internet connection into the computer, with a connection into the monitor? Costco has some great prices on the Sceptre brand with a 32, 37, and in March a 42 inch available. This way I could have a great system in the family room."

HDTV as PC Monitor:D:D:D:D

Yeah it's old, but apparently this idea has been thought of before......
its a dum idea made by weird people
Dude, I'm using a 32" Trinitron WeGA TV now as my monitor and have been successfully for 5 months.....

The only thing I can't do is Photoshop......

You call that dumb???????
so why the hell do you need a 42" for isnt a 32" big enough for you
It's the clarity I'm going for..... The resolution mate....

The 42" is the same hight as my Trinitron.....I just want 1366X768 instead of 640X480.....or even 1920X1080..if I get lucky...
Gameman it's an idea researched for rich spoiled brats, I never said it was unheard of...
Nice signature...the car is nice mate.....
It's the clarity I'm going for..... The resolution mate....
Bull****. You can get better clarity and resolution with a smaller computer monitor. You just want a big tv to wave your epeen around. The TV is going to look substantially worse, btw. 1366x768 is horribly low res by computer standards. Widescreen laptops often have a higher resolution for crying out loud.
Although your not gonna believe me you get a lot more quality/clarity/resolution from a 24" LCD monitor then from a HDTV. Though i dont know why i wasted my breath(oh excuse me my fingers would me more appropriated since i wrote not talked).

Edit: Strange when i entered in this thread 2 mins ago, spyhop post wasnt there oO, oh well must have been some error.
In any case, wouldn't a 42" HDTV be really awkward to use all the time?
Only if you had to move/lift it.....but even then they're a lot lighter than My Trinitron Wega CRT.... which weighs in at...

400LBS

(or at least it seems like it)
Wait, the TV resolution he wants is 1366x768?.....

ROFL

I tried the same thing on my 32" HD TV.

The TV will either cut off part of your image or create black bars. There's really no point in using a TV as a monitor. The clarity, colour and resolutions on a standard 22" monitor far exceeds a TV with that resolution....trust me.
Wait, the TV resolution he wants is 1366x768?.....
1366X768 is nothing to laugh at...

Take a look at this from mastaG with a 42" sony....

That's good enough for me...

1366x768 is everything to laugh at. You've obviously never seen higher resolutions then? Like, true 1080HD?...
Look....I've seen it in person at CBIT (which you should be familiar with) and BestBuy....
And it looked good...even from 10 feet away....

Besides I don't mind a smaller desktop and bigger icons...it sure blows the Trinitron all to hell.....

Relax.... it's what I need for the job.....
Ok then, whatever floats your boat.

There's a reason why this idea of using a TV as your main computer monitor hasn't taken off.

If you want to read text from 10feet and strain your eyes...be my guest.
